Sean quickly became part of our everyday life the next few weeks. He would come over in the morning and stay late into the night. We kept everything completely platonic and I was actually enjoying it. Honestly I figured he would have given up by now and decided to pursue other interests, but he actually stuck around. Some days, like today, he brought Scott around.
I didn't particularly enjoy Scott or his company, but he made Mavis and Sean happy so I put up with him. He wasn't really a great friend to Sean and he would constantly flirt with Mavis, then he would go have sex with other girls. Literally he would go straight from our house to his next hookup's house, Sean told me.
Today we all decided to go see a movie. I don't really know why, I don't have any particular movies I wanted to see and that's way to many people for Mavis to be comfortable enough to pay attention. It was Scott's idea and I've already covered that he's an asshat, so really who's surprised.
The movie is about some guy who rides horses and fights crime, maybe? I honestly don't truly know what it's about. My knowledge of it is that I don't want to see it and neither does Mavis. But regardless of our opinions, we find ourselves loading into Scott's car. It's one if those annoying muscle cars that guys like for some reason, but I don't particularly enjoy.
The ride over is relatively awkward considering Mavis won't talk, it's one of those days, and I don't really feel like conversing with the douche lord and his kindly side kick. I mostly played Tetris on my phone while Sean and Scott fought over the radio. Mavis sat quietly in the seat next to me and didn't appear to be all that present for the car ride. Like I said, relatively awkward, so when we finally pulled into the theatre parking lot I was the first one out of the car.
"Wow June, you got out quick. Didn't enjoy the ride?" Sean asked sarcastically.
"I guess not. Can't imagine why. I'll try harder next time." I joked back.
"There isn't gonna be a next time June, I'm done bringing him with for visits."
"You don't have to do that. He's your friend, if you want to bring him you can."
"Yeah, but I don't want to. I've caught him checking you out a couple times, that doesn't sit well with me." Oh. Well that's embarrassing.
"We should catch up with them." I tell him and point to where Scott and Mavis have walked far ahead of us. Anything to stop him from noticing the blush currently covering my cheeks.
"Yeah probably, come on." He says as he grabs my hand and pulls me along.
Sean insists on paying even though I'm adamant on it not being a date. Well this is really my own fault, I shouldn't have let him hold my hand, I knew it would get his hopes up. Sometimes he does things like that, grabs my hand or puts his arm around me. Usually I just let it slide, it's not like I don't know what he wants, I just can't give it to him yet.
I sit between Mavis and Sean in the theatre with Scott on the other side of Mavis. He keeps trying to make conversation with her, but she I guess she isn't comfortable enough to speak cause she just nods her head to whatever he's saying. Sean doesn't try to talk to me, he just grabs my hand again watches the screen.
It turns out the movie isn't about Cowboys or whatever, it's about some FBI agents who are trying to stop some criminals from killing someone. The plot is very original, not like anything I've ever seen before. Note the sarcasm, it was just as basic as every other spy movie that's ever been made. I don't know much of what happened, partially cause Sean was rubbing circles on the back of my hand with his thumb the whole time, and partially cause I didn't care enough to actually watch it.
There's no need to address the ride home, it was as uneventful and awkward as the ride there. The real action started when we got home. Sean came in with Mavis and I while Scott went "home". This is nothing new, Sean usually stays longer than Scott, but Mavis immediately breaking down crying after we shut the front door was.
"Holy shit Mavis, what's wrong?" I ask urgently. She cries in response.
"Sean, go wait in the living room, I'm gonna bring Mavis upstairs." I demand.
"Okay, if there's anything I can do just tell me and it's done." He replies and retreats to the liv.
I bring Mavis upstairs and seat her on her bed. She doesn't seem ready to talk so I just hold get for a while. I can't think of anything that would set her off like this, as far as I was concerned nothing of importance had happened tonight. I don't think it was her going to a movie theater, she's done that a few times since her break down, and I really have no other ideas.
"Mavis, you have to tell me what's wrong. You can't keep it to yourself or I can't help you." I tell her soothingly.
"I just..I don't..how could he say that?" She said between sobs.
"What? Who said what? Did Scott say something to you?"
"I don't know why he would say it. I thought he understood." She huffed out.
"Mav, you have to tell me the whole story. Just calm down and start from the beginning."
"Scott made a rude comment." Mavis finally admitted after a few minutes of controlling her breathing.
"What did he say? Why did he say it? You have to give me more than that."
"It was after he'd been talking to me for a while, he was upset cause I would only nod in response, I was freaking out June, and he yelled at me. He said 'Are you just gonna nod at everything I say? I've been hanging out with you for a month now and all I get is a ducking nod? This is bullshit. Why am I even wasting my time here.' I just don't get it. Why would he say that? What did he want from me, he knows I have social anxiety what did he expect?" She said, barely finishing her sentence before she broke out in tears again.
"Fuck. He's gonna get a thrashing. Nobody treats my sister like that. Look Mavis, he's a dick. Sean told me not to waste our time on him, okay? So just forget about him." I tell her while rubbing circles on her back.
"June can I be alone for a while? I just need to think about some things. I promise I'll be okay, I just need some alone time."
"Um, yeah I guess. Don't do anything drastic. I'm taking your phone with me. Sean will take care of this for you. I'll be right downstairs if you need me."
