Falling.
He was falling with no apparent destination. Surrounded by a thick blanket of darkness, he descended into the neverending murk. His lungs were gasping for air as he reached out his arms, desperately trying to grasp onto something in the dark emptiness, yet there was nothing.
After reaching around for minutes or possibly even hours, his arms grew tired to the point where they couldn't follow his commands.
Finally, as if the gates of Heaven opened themselves before him, a light spread through his vision. Unobtainable yet serene, he gazed up at the sight before him. Was this his salvation, at long last? Would he finally be free of this endless dive, over and over again?
Above him, gazing down at him through the heavens was a pair of crystalline blue eyes, gazing at him as if they were mocking his failure. He opened his mouth to scream, shout, or say anything, but no noise came out. The figure looming over him, asserting their superiority, closed the gap and swallowed him in darkness once more.
. . .
You walked out of the convenience store with a pack of cigarettes, strolling over to the smoking zone and pulling your lighter out from your pocket. Just as you were about to light it, a hand snatched away the box.
"Oi. Didn't you say you would stop smoking?" a harsh voice sounded in your ears.
Turning around to face the blue-haired boy you knew was coming, you couldn't help but let out an exasperated sigh. "C'mon Jun, it's not like I'm addicted to it. It's just a puff and then I'll be over with it."
"As if I'd believe that," he glared at you. "I thought you said you didn't even like smoking."
Jun Sazanami. A 'family friend' of sorts, but more like someone you just coincidentally ran into so much that you just started talking to each other whenever you crossed paths. He wasn't exactly your friend but he certainly wasn't an enemy."I thought you said that you hated smoking when you tried it out. Why are you starting up all of the sudden?" Jun shoved the lighter and cigarettes in his own pocket.
"'Starting up' is an over-exaggeration," you sighed, "but thanks for stopping me. I really shouldn't be smoking."
Jun rolled his eyes. "Half of the times that I see you you're experiencing some sort of midlife crisis."
"I'm not in my 'midlife' stage so that's impossible, dumbass," you retorted.
"You're not my English teacher," he snapped."That's the best comeback you can come up with?" you poked his shoulder. "You've gotta work on those, man."
