An anti-matter bomb. Carefully designed to reverse all damage caused by a breach in space that quickly tore through dimensional walls, opening up a gate for nightmares far beyond anyone's comprehension to bleed into the current reality and consume everything standing in their way. Including the planet Earth, the home to all of human kind. Quite literally, humanity's, and the universe's, last hope.
Surprisingly, all that power was contained inside a rather small object, light enough for a human to carry it with no trouble.
Quinn, a former soldier of the now extinct Infinity Guard, stepped forward, her gloved fingers gently touching the cylindrical shell, hesitating as she felt the faint warmth that came from the energy stored inside."To think, that's the only thing stopping the Earth from getting swallowed up. And it's all on me.."
With an intense tone, a familiar voice approached from behind. It snapped the woman out of her thoughts, getting her to turn around and face the blonde man that confidently walked towards the weapon.
"On you?"
The guard asked as she swiftly snatched the bomb from the counter before the other's hands could even brush against it.
"Well.. Yeah! It's go time! I gotta finish the job."
The male replied whilst he made a failed attempt to lunge at the bomb and take it from Quinn's grasp.
"No you don't, Gary. I'm the one taking it to the breach. It's my mission!"
Determined, she dodged from the other's advances, both sides creating an awkward dance, the music made out of groans of effort as they fought for the possession of the prize, going back and forth in the space of a small room.
"Too bad! It's my destiny."
With a cocky reply, Gary finally managed to get his hands over the shell that concentrated the violent explosion inside, gently tugging the cylinder to his chest in a request for his teammate to let go and allow him to finish their mission.
Quinn let out a loud sigh of frustration, still holding firmly onto the object, but putting a stop to their competition over it."Listen, Gary, ever since I discovered the gravitational disturbance, I knew this was my life's work. I need to see this through to the end! So if you really have feelings for me.. You need to let me be the one to close the breach."
The response to her words were pure silence and a painful look of hesitation from the other end, the former prisoner considering his friend's reasoning.
"I am genuinely- perplexed here! Cause I can take anything. Except losing you! I know that you want to fix this mess because you think it's your fault somehow, but- You're more than a screw-up! This doesn't have to be your life's work. You don't have to risk it all just to fix someone else's mess. You can still do more, and I, I-"
Nervously avoiding eye contact, the criminal looked down at the floor as his hands carefully brought the weapon closer to himself.
"I like you because you're everything that I'm not. I need to fix this, because- If my dad couldn't do it.. I'm gonna fix it. This is my life's work. It's gonna at least make me something more than a screw-up."
Quinn slowly let her weakened grip around the small container go.
"You can still be the hero in the.. space news if you wanna."
The male's comment got an amused chuckle from the captain, her head softly shaking as she complied with his wish and took a step back.
"No. It's gonna be the both of us."
With the anti-matter bomb in hands, Gary looked back up to face the other, smiling wide before he'd back away to the doorframe.
"Don't die on me, Goodspeed!"
