IT'S BEEN SIX YEARS SINCE MY FATHER DIED. I was there. I witnessed it. So did Hayleigh, my sister. I remember every minute of it. The shed went up into flames. There was so much smoke. I remember that I couldn't breathe. My father was brave. He saw that Hayleigh was stuck in the shed, so he went to save her. She got out alive, but he didn't. Everyone at school thinks that it was just too hot, that it burned the shed and made a fire. It's true. It did burn, but what they don't know is that I'm the reason. I'm the reason that he's dead. I killed him.
"Phoebe, honey, wake up," mother said. "Huh?... What?.." "You're late for school! Connor is all ready and he's waiting for you downstairs. Hurry," she answered. I quickly got up. "Hm, black or white? Know what, it doesn't matter! I'll just do white," I told myself. I put the white outfit on and hurried downstairs. "Whoa, Phoebes, are you alright?" Connor asked, who was my twin brother. "Yeah, I'm great. We need to hurry! It's already.. seven forty-one?" I said. Mother bursted our laughing. "Honey, I told you, you were late so you would wake up early," she said. She always had ideas on how to wake us up. "Oh my lord. Phoebe, your hair!" Hayleigh said. "What's wrong with it? I asked. "It's so.. how can I say this without sounding mean," she said. "Just say my hair looks terrible. I'd agree," I said. "Good. Now let's go fix it."
Once we finished eating breakfast, Hayleigh quickly fixed my hair. She had put up a half-up half-down and curled my bangs. Then we left for school.
Once Hayleigh dropped us off, Connor and I went to our friend groups. Connor went to his friends. The nerds. They were the ones who basically knew everything and anything. Then there was the drama geeks. They all loved singing, dancing, and of course, acting. Someone I knew, Madelyn, was a drama geek. Then, of course, there were the jocks. They lived sports. Getting hurt was a big thing too. I knew many jocks. Way to many. Derrick, my boyfriend. Zach, Chloe's boyfriend. Duke, the idiot, and way more people. There was also the fashionistas. They loved everything and anything about fashion. My best friend since birth, Natalie was a fashionista. She basically designed everything in my closet, if you think buying stuff is "designing your closet". Then of course, the popular kids. If you're a popular kid, you could be anything. You'll just need to be likable.
As I walked to class, Natalie came running towards me. "Phoebs! Today is our first day of being juniors! One year until we are seniors then before you know it, we're off to college. Why do you look so... so.. weird?" She said. Natalie was the energetic type. She's nice to everyone. I would know. "Oh, uhm, I'm just tired. My mom told me I was late when it was seven o'clock," I answered. "Ah, my chickens wake me up," Natalie said. It's like her chickens were her children.. "so, who's your teacher for home room?" "Hm, one second, I need to get my schedule out of my bag," I said. I got the paper and looked for home room. "Mrs. Thomas. How about you?" Natalie and I were always in the same class, the only time we weren't was third grade, Mr. Thomas. Ever since, we always thought that the last name, "Thomas" was bad luck. Then Natalie said this, "Darn it, too bad I'm with.... Mrs. Thomas!" She always liked to surprise me. "Oh, okay.. the good thing is we are in each others class. Well at least one of them.
We always have a first day assembly. Every two years, Millwood High gets a new principal. When we were freshmen, we got a new principal, Principal Davis. Now this year, our new principal was a she. Natalie and I were the head of the special events club, a club that plans well, special events.. "Good morning Millwood Manatees! Welcome to our first day assembly," I said. "At this assembly, we will be talking about changes at Millwood," Natalie mentioned. "Some of the changed are that school lunches will now be free and some teachers have switched," I added. Natalie said, "Yes, that is correct, Phoebe, but one of the biggest changed of this year will probably be.." "Our new principal, Principal Conrad!" we both said. The whole auditorium started shaking because of all the excitement of our brand new principal. To be honest, I wasn't that happy.
"Hello Millwood! I'm Principal Lucy Conrad! I am your new principal. As Natalie and Phoebe said, this will be a big change, but remember I don't want to replace Principal Davis," she said loudly.
After the assembly, everybody went into the halls to their lockers. As I opened my locker, a note came out. Of course, I had to read it.

  "Dear Phoebe Lynn McAdams,
             I Know Your Secret.
At fourth period, go to the janitors closet and wait. Once you are there, you are going to see a camera. Look into it and say your name. There will be more people, so be prepared.
DO NOT tell anyone about this.
                                Mr. Anonymous"
