The file wasn't locked this time; instead as soon as I double clicked on it, an extremely long letter popped up on the screen. Mr and Mrs Broadtree. 178 Ashview Lane, France. I slowly read the letter, hoping it would tell me something about the mysterious girl. But instead it was all about me. The words moved around the screen making it difficult to read. The sweat that laced my fingers left an imprint on the mouse I struggled to control as I hovered the curser over the bold writing. Nothing in the letter made any sense in a mysterious way, instead everyone had been sent home with one of these, but me. Mine had been sent to a couple in France I have never heard of. My parents were sent one by email and I never knew why I wasn't given one by a letter. The door creeped open, and the curly ginger haired librarian popped over the screen behind me. I jumped off the seat, landing on my ankle sending an excruciating pain up my leg. I winced through the pain as I slid behind a bookshelf, tiptoeing.
"Is anyone in here, is it one of you year 7's again trying to get out of chemistry?".
I put my hand over my mouth so she couldn't hear my heavy breathing. This time I really didn't know how I was going to get out of this one. I peeped my head round the corner to see her nodding her head, her eyes jolting open and shut again. I got onto my hands and knees and crawled across to the computer room slowly opening the door.
"Come out now", her voice called from behind.
I giggled as I slid through the window and headed to the toilets. I opened my bag to find a letter in the large pocket, sticking up slightly. My name was neatly written across in a handwriting I didn't recognise. I slid my pink nail under neath, lifting the letter up.
Dear Jessica Gleem,
I am writing to you from behind the frame, you know the one my picture was in. I felt like I needed to tell someone about me, so since you took so much time looking at my picture I thought maybe you would like to know. I never passed away, instead I'm hiding behind my frame. It sounds weird I know. I have only been here for a few days and my picture was put up last week so I'm in good health. My friend Flora is in on it so she brings me food and drink everyday; morning, lunch and tea. Send me a reply of questions and I'll answer everything you want to know about. Example, people, myself, why I'm here etc, I think you'll get the idea. Give your letter to Flora, tomorrow just before period 1 in front of my picture. I'm really sorry this letter is so confusing and random but please do believe me, this is not a secret and I have some information about your sister and your family. By the way I'm not very good at English so please excuse my awful grammar.
Sincerely Anna Winters.
I could feel my heart pounding out my chest. My head was full of questions: how long has that letter been in my bag, how did it get there, why, what for? I sat down on the shelf in front of the window and lifted the pullers up, clearing my head from all the confusion. I texted Mia:
Hi Mia got something to tell you. In the upstairs toilets come soon! Xx
The door burst open and in came Flora.
"Did you get the letter then?"
"What letter?" I dismayed.
"You know, the letter".
I shook my head and Flora grabbed my bag pulling the letter out straight away.
"So what's this then?"
"I don't know, I've never seen that before in my life," I replied.
"Jess you can tell me you know, I'm in on it too".
"Give it me" I said pulling the letter out her hand and walking to my form. I texted Mia back telling her the change of plan.
