i wanna be sedated - ramonesMickey wasn't sure how long she sat there, staring off at the cement wall, quiet tears streaking her face. She couldn't even find the energy to reach up and wipe them away with her wrist below her bindings.
"Hey," Robin said quietly. "Are you... okay?"
"No," Mickey replied simply.
Robin took a deep breath. "We have to get out of here."
Mickey sighed. "Do you think Dustin and Erica made it out?"
Robin nodded slowly. "I'm gonna think the best. They're getting out right now. They're gonna call your dad. He's gonna storm the fucking place like you've never seen in your life and kick the shit out of anyone who laid a hand on us..."
"But," Mickey prompted, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
"But, we have to act as if we are... completely alone. And I have a plan." Mickey leaned her head back against Robin's to show her interest. "You see that table over there? On your right? See those scissors? I think if we move together, at the same time, then maybe we could get over there and I could kick the table and knock them into your lap."
There was a spark of motivation in Mickey at the sound of the plan. All she wanted to do was curl up into a ball and sob her eyes out. But there was still a chance they could get to Steve. And that small chance is what set her face in determination. "I bet you could. I could cut the rope..."
"And we can get out of here," Robin said. When Mickey was quiet for a moment, she added, "All three of us."
"What are we waiting for?"
On each of Robin's counts of three, they hopped together, each bringing them closer to the small, metal table. Their hope grew every time it worked. At the peak of their excitement, they lost their sync and they both fell to the ground.
Mickey groaned in pain as tears returned to her cheeks as if they never left. She wasn't sure she could take it when she felt Robin's shoulders shake behind her. "Don't cry, Rob. We're getting out of here," Mickey said, despite her own tear-stricken face. When she listened for a second more, though, she realized she was hearing a different sound. "Wait, are you laughing?"
Robin giggled so hard she squeaked, rolling her head up towards Mickey as the other girl sighed in embarrassment. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, it's just... I can't believe I'm going to die in a secret Russian lab with the queen of Hawkins High, Mickey Hopper. It's just too trippy man," she laughed.
"Please, do not call me that," Mickey mumbled with a roll of her eyes.
"Oh, please, you and Steve." Robin shook her head. "I don't think anyone was surprised when that happened..."
