Mickey spent fourth period history beside Nancy with Jonathan sitting right behind her, making it easy for the three to waste their class time conversing amongst themselves. Mickey tried not to constantly roll her eyes at how in love with Nancy Jonathan was and how oblivious Nancy was to Joanthan's obsession.

Finally, the bell relieved them from class for their lunch break. While leaving the classroom, Tina stood just outside the door, offering neon orange flyers to passersby. Nancy was the first to receive one, though she circled back for a second.

Mickey, trailing only a few steps behind her friends, got one, too, though Tina added, "Hope you can control yourself." A few quiet laughs raised from the surrounding students.

"Make sure to tell your boyfriend the same thing. Or have you finally taught him to keep it in his pants?" Mickey shot back, earning surprised exclamations from their peers. Tina gave her a nasty look and Mickey couldn't help but flick her off as she departed.

"You okay?" Nancy asked, linking her arm with Mickey's. "Tina's a brat."

"I'm aware. And I'm fine, thanks."

"Onto more pressing matters, then." Nancy pressed the extra flyer into Jonathan's chest. "You're coming to this."

"And so it begins," Mickey said fondly.

"'Come and get sheet faced,'" Jonathan read with a scoff. "No, I'm not. You just said it yourself, Tina's the worst."

Mickey patted Jonathan's head. "Oh, sweet, innocent Joanthan. You don't have to like the people throwing the party. And the host won't like all the people going. How do you think I got a flyer? No, the point is that Tina will appear popular and in exchange all of us get free booze. Well, all excluding me."

"And I refuse to let you sit alone all Halloween," Nancy added. "That's just not acceptable."

"Well, you can relax, because I won't be alone all night," Jonathan said. Nancy hummed her disbelief. "I'm going trick-or-treating with Will!"

"All night?"

He shrugged. "Yeah."

"No, no way," Nancy said. "You're gonna be home by 8:00, listening to the Talking Heads and reading..." She looked at Mickey for assistance.

"Vonnegut or something," Mickey completed, making Nancy laugh.

Jonathan simply looked between the girls with a shrug. "Sounds like a nice night."

Mickey sighed, hopelessness washing over her, as Nancy pulled them over to her locker. "Jonathan, just come," Nancy said. "You can just hang out with Mick and me. Or, who knows, you might even, like, meet someone..." Nancy trailed off then shrieked as Steve picked her up from behind and twirling her around as he laughed.
