"This is it," said Snape, coming to a halt, "the Leaky Cauldron. It's a famous place."
It was a tiny, grubby-looking pub. If Snape hadn't pointed it out, Harry and Jason wouldn't have noticed it was there. The people hurrying by didn't glance at it. Their eyes slid from the big book shop on one side to the record shop on the other as if they couldn't see the Leaky Cauldron at all. In fact, Harry and Jason had the most peculiar feeling that only they and Snape could see it. Before they could mention this, Snape had steered them inside.
For a famous place, it was very dark and shabby. A few old women were sitting in a corner, drinking tiny glasses of sherry. One of them was smoking a long pipe. A little man in a top hat was talking to the old bartender, who was quite bald and looked like a toothless walnut. The low buzz of chatter stopped when they walked in. Everyone seemed to know Snape; they nodded, and the bartender waved, saying, "Going to get Potions ingredients today, Professor?"
"Not today, I'm on Hogwarts business," said Snape.

"Good Lord," said the bartender, peering at Harry and Jason, "is this -- can this be --?"
The Leaky Cauldron had suddenly gone completely still and silent.
"Bless my soul," whispered the old bartender, "The Potter brothers... what an honor."
He hurried out from behind the bar, rushed toward Harry and Jason and seized their hands, tears in his eyes.
"Welcome back, Mr. Potters, welcome back."
They didn't know what to say. Everyone was looking at him. The old woman with the pipe was puffing on it without realizing it had gone out. Hagrid was beaming.
Then there was a great scraping of chairs and the next moment, Harry and Jason found themselves shaking hands with everyone in the Leaky Cauldron.
"Doris Crockford, Mr. Potters, can't believe I'm meeting you at last."
"So proud, Mr. Potters, I'm just so proud."
"Always wanted to shake your hands -- I'm all of a flutter."
"Delighted, Mr. Potters, just can't tell you, Diggle's the name, Dedalus Diggle."
"I've seen you before!" said Harry, as Dedalus Diggle's top hat fell off in his excitement. "You bowed to me once in a shop."
"He remembers!" cried Dedalus Diggle, looking around at everyone. "Did you hear that? He remembers me!" Harry shook hands again and again -- Doris Crockford kept coming back for more.
A pale young man made his way forward, very nervously. One of his eyes was twitching.
"Quirrell!" said Snape. "Harry, Jason, Professor Quirrell will be one of your teachers at Hogwarts."
"P-P-Potters," stammered Professor Quirrell, grasping their hands, "c-can't t-tell you how p- pleased I am to meet you two."
"What sort of magic do you teach, Professor Quirrell?"
"D-Defense Against the D-D-Dark Arts," muttered Professor Quirrell, as though he'd rather not think about it. "N-not that you n-need it, eh, P-P-Potters?" He laughed nervously. "You'll be g-getting all your equipment, I suppose? I've g-got to p-pick up a new b-book on vampires, m-myself." He looked terrified at the very thought. Something Harry noticed "Man the fuck up you little bitch." Harry snapped before trying to kick him in the shins.

"Harry!" several people yell but Jason points at his brother "See I'm not the only one who's an asshole!" Jason tells them "What can I say? You're a bad influence on me." Harry says.

But the others wouldn't let Professor Quirrell keep Harry and Jason to himself. It took almost ten minutes to get away from them all. The last to come was a huge man that dwarfed everyone there "Names Rubeus Hagrid." The man tells them. "Knew you two when you were younger. Was one of the first ones to see you when your parents came home with you from America." Hagrid told them. "Why were we in America?" Harry asks.
"We must hurry and get to the bank." Snape interrupts them
Doris Crockford shook Jason and Harry's hand one last time, and Snape led them through the bar and out into a small, walled courtyard, where there was nothing but a trash can and a few weeds.
  Jason grinned at Harry.
"Finally someone recognizes my greatness. Oh, and your greatness too." he adds after a second. Ignoring Harry's eye roll, Jason turns back to the drama queen who was had just opened the brick wall into a crowded alley.
