MATILDA! CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE:
PARTY CRASHERS

The group all laughed as they sat around in the hot tub and drank beer. JJ had gotten them a blunt and they were listening to Pope try to rap. Liz had JJs arm around her. "I never made good grades in school, when I get out, I act like a fool— they say I come in the party and cause a commotion, I'm smooth yeah, they call me lotion" Pope went on, making Liz burst out laughing

"Do it Pope!" Liz exclaimed, leaning back onto JJ a little more

"Just like the good Lord intended." JJ muttered

"It was way too genuine." Sarah shook her head

Liz watched Pope and JJ play a game they had made up where they try to knock each other over taking turns. It was a game they had played for years. Pope took his leg and turned JJ around making him fall to the ground.

"With the single-leg sweep."

"You've got a new technique now."

"Oh no! No!" Both Liz and Sarah yelled

"When did you start wrestling?"

"I dunno." Pope shrugged "I'm done. I'm out of here."

"Did you have too many beers?" JJ said with an accent  "You want a round two?"

"Yeah, I think I'll take my losses" Pope walked away and Kie got up giving the group a look as she followed Pope down the shore

"Really?"

"Oh yeah."

"Way to be discreet!" Liz exclaimed at them

"I leave, and this is what happens." John B said

"Are you blaming us?" JJ asked pointing to Liz

"Just a little bit. Uh-oh. Your boy's out. Beer time."

"You guys are the one that died, okay? That was..."

"Okay."

"No Pogue-on-Pogue macking!"

"One job?" JJ asked and Liz got up to follow John B and get a beer as JJ and Sarah continued to argue

"One job."

"Sarah, one job? Okay—"

"Who got you the Phantom? Huh? You ever think about that?" Liz began to drown out the sound of anyhting else and stood beside John B looking at the small memorial they had for him. She saw JJ come beside them out the corner of her eye

"It's a cute art project." John B told them "Killed the tree, though."

"Probably. Yeah." JJ laughed

  "Oops." Liz muttered as John B looked at the two of them

"We freaking missed you, man." JJ told him bringing both of them into a tight hug. After a long hug, JJ went back to sit down leaving Liz and John B still in the right embrace. Liz slightly turned her head up.

"I thought I would never see you again" Liz mumbled and John Bs head looked towards her

"I know Liz" John B looked down "not getting rid of me that easy" John B smiled and Lizzes smile grew.

              
After a minute, the two sat down. Liz sat beside Sarah near the fire and they heard the boat start up and turned to see it leaving, with Kie and Pope in it.

"Oh! All right."

"Have a good time!" Liz yelled towards them

"There here he goes. He jacked your boat, dude."
