MATILDA! CHAPTER THIRTY TWO:
THE WHEAT SYMBOL

Liz and JJ woke up and Kie picked them up for school. Kie stopped at Liz's house so she could change, than they went to school. Cassie sat in history class writing her test, before someone came in the class. He looked very professional, he was wearing a suit. Mr Sunn approached him as they started a profits conversation that Liz could still hear.

"Mr Sunn, can I borrow Pope for a minute?" The man asked

"We're in the middle of a test right now" Mr Sunn told the man quietly

"I'm from the Vanderhorst Foundation"

"Mr Heyward. It's for you" Liz looked at the man curiously, as to what was so important he needed to talk now.

About 2 minutes later Pope came storming back in the class loudly, making Liz's head lift quickly. The boy looked rattled and a look of concern washed over Liz face as he sat down in front of her.

"Okay what was that?" Kie asked, and Pope showed them the envelope he had in his had. Liz's eyes widened as she saw the same Wheat Symbol that was on the gold, on Popes envelope.

"Is that the wheat symbol?"

"Yeah"

"what the f—fu.. fu.. fudge?" JJ quickly corrected himself as the teacher looked back at him and Liz stifled a laugh

"Is this a game of tag?" JJ asked as they entered the Library, to try and see who sent the letter as he held onto Liz's hand.

"I don't know"

"Am I gonna have to beat you with your protractor? What's going on?"

"Seriously Pope, you are driving me insane" Liz told the boy as she sat down in the chair next to Kie

"Okay, so that guy was from the scholarship committee. Take a look at this" Pope held out the envelope and JJ snatched it from him "read it" JJ opened the envelope quickly and got the letter. He started at it for a moment.

"Out loud" Kie told him

"I can't read cursive" JJ whispered to them and Liz pursed her lips, taking it from him

"Dear Mr Heyward, I am reaching out becuase I have material evidence that can exonerate John B Routledge." Liz looked up at the other three for a moment before continuing to read "it is of vital importance that you come and meet with me in person at my offices at 27 King Street, Charleston at 8:00pm sharp tonight... please come alone. Regards, C, Limbrey" Liz sighed as she finished the letter, running a hand through her hair

"What?"

"Charleston?"

"It's like an eight hour drive"

"Yeah we'd have to leave right now"

"I have a free period" Kie said

"Me too" Liz added

"Material evidence? What does that even mean?"

"It means he can clear John B"

"Oh shit— than we're going to Charleston" JJ told them
