They all surrounded the small raised platform that was in the center of the training room and watched Four teach them the combat skills. Raven watched with full attention now knowing that her every move, every reaction, her everything would decide whether she would become Dauntless or whether she would become just another factionless taking up room on the streets and begging for scraps off Abnegation.
They quickly moved on to target practice where Raven finally got to have hands on practise with a gun. It took her a few tries to figure out the feel of a gun in her hands and the right way to aim, fire and hit the targets but it didn't take her long to get the hang of things and she was one of the first to actually hit the target and leave a lasting mark. She glanced over to where Tris was practicing to see she wasn't doing very well.
"You know statistically speaking, you should have hit the target at least once. Even by accident." Will said to Tris, with a gentle smile.
Tris resisted an eye roll and settled for a quiet sigh.

The initiates ran over to where a few of the Dauntless leaders were.
"What you got?" Four asked.
"Factionless. Not doing anything." The leader Max replied as they watched the group.
"Hey check it out Stiff. That's gonna be your new family. Go say high." Peter whispered loudly to Tris.
"Shut up prick." Raven responded hoping not to catch the attention of Four.
"Or what?" Peter asked taking a couple of steps towards Raven, his attention on her instead of Tris.
Raven rolled her eyes before leading Tris away from him.
"That's what I thought." Raven heard him mutter and something in her snapped.
She spun round and punched him in the jaw, hard enough to hurt but not hard enough to cause any lasting damage. She turned back around and walked over to Christina with Tris close behind her.
"You shouldn't have done that." Christina whispered to Raven.
"Yeah I know." Raven replied casually.
"Why are you constantly defending me?" Tris asked sounding annoyed.
"Because when I'm not around and he picks on you, hopefully you'll be able to surprise his ass." Raven answered smiling proudly.

The next day everyone was paired up and told to practide the combat skills. Christina and Tris worked together while Raven was paired with a random initiate that was originally from Erudite.
"Are they ready?" Eric asked Four as he watched them practise.
"Not even close." Four replied.
"First jumper!" Eric called out and everyone looked over at Tris.
"Last jumper!" He called out, looking over at the initiate named Molly.
Tris and Molly walked over to a small platform in the center.
"How long do we fight for?" Molly asked when Tris didn't.
"Till one of you can't continue." Eric replied.
"Or one of you concedes." Four added.
"According to the old rules." Eric said dismissing Fours added answer.
"New rules, no one concedes." He continued.
"You really want to lose 'em on their first fight?" Four asked Eric.
"A brave man never surrenders."
"Lucky for you, those weren't the rules when we fought." Four said with a hunt of smugness.
"You'll be scored on this so fight hard." Eric said concluding the conversation.
Molly readied herself before looking of at Eric for when to start.
"Go!" He said firmly, restraing from rolling his eyes.
As Molly crept towards Tris, she backed away until she was out of the ring which made a few of the transfers chuckle quietly. Molly dropped her arms and steps backwards a few steps allowing Trid back into the platform.
"Don't be scared, Stiff." Peter called out as Tris made her way back onto the platform.
Raven glared over at Peter be he just gave her his usual smirk in return.
Molly went to punch Tris but she dodged it.
"Nice, Tris." Christina complimented.
Tris tried to land a punch on Molly but she was too far away from her and missed. Molly retaliated and threw a punch back at Tris which didn't miss. Tris moved back several steps holding her ear as Molly came at her again, landing another punch on her. Tris went to grab Molly's middle which resulted in Molly being able to get several punches in Tris's side, until she broke free. Before Tris could get anymore punches in, Molly punched her in the face and Tris went straight to the floor. She made an attempt to get up while Molly looked over at Eric who gave her a look that meant 'finish her off then.' Molly punched Tris for the final time and she stayed down.
"Alright, guys over here." Eric called out to the as he walked over to a board.
"Listen up." He commanded as he came to a stop infront of the board.
"Know what this board is?" He asked pressing a button and all the names of both Dauntless born and transfers appeared.
"Its your life. We grade you everyday. If you're still in the red by the end if the first stage, you're out." Eric explained.
Raven took a moment to fully look at the board. She was 5th, the place behind Peter. Christina, Al and Will were both above the line but Tris was below the red line with being in second to last place.

Authors notes
Sorry if the chapters are too long, or that I'm going into to much detail I'm just trying to keep it as close to the movie as possible. Things will make sense soon as to why Raven fits in so well compared to Tris.
