To be honest, Xel was...difficult. He wasn't the brightest and would disappear for a little while with no explanation then come back like nothing happened. This really annoyed Mumbo, who was basically Xel's babysitter at this point. On multiple occasions, he had to teach the ghost how mobs worked. It wasn't all bad though, the two would have a lot of fun together in the tunnels racing or hanging with other hermits.
As time went on, Xel kept disappearing but honestly, at this point Mumbo just stopped questioning it. With this, Mumbo went outside more. Thank goodness, he was getting pale.
Wha- oh I'm not supposed to- oh ok!
The hermits were happy he was coming back more, but were certainly perplexed with Xel. His amnesia was just another obstacle. Now with where he went, they couldn't figure out. Xel knew, however.~~~~
Xel woke back up in Othertown. The ghost town was normally bustling with ghosts from everywhere, but especially today. He gazed around for a bit before spotting ghostbur's staple beanie and yellow sweater.
Ghostbur was his best friend- well best friend that wasn't alive or knew him before he died. They met the first time Xel came to Othertown by accidentally willing himself into it. With ghost ur were three others- Quinn, Catherine, and Waffle. He got the hang of it though and was able to go to Othertown as he wished, whenever and wherever. Running over, he couldn't help but notice that no one else but Ghostbur were there.
"Hey Ghostbur, where is everyone?" He asked. Ghostbur just shrugged.
"I guess they didn't come today." Something about Ghostbur seemed off. Xel didn't feel it was a good idea to ask him what was wrong.Once Xel got home, he noticed something. His hands were...fading. Like, they were more transparent. He couldn't hold as much as he used to. Another thing he noticed was that ghostbur was the same.
"Hey Mumbo, am I fading?" He blurted out one day.
"Hm?" Mumbo didn't seem to hear him in the ruckus of residing the redstone of his base.
"Am I fading?"
"No I don't...think so. Why?"
"I- no reason." Oh thank god. Mumbo continued rummaged through his machinery before pulling his hand out, asking for the wrench. Xel gave it to him abesnt-mindedly. The birds sang above, their songs singing a bittersweet tune. The wind blew through the trees, and Xel had a hunch the end may be soon. He didn't know that soon.
——There was something wrong. Grian knew it. Something seemed to shift in the... energy of the place. The hallucinations got less and less, and they weren't watching as much, and much less interacting. The creatures didn't pass by his cell any more.
Why? How? Is he finally going home? Or is his last day getting closer?
It didn't matter. If it was, he wouldn't care. He was getting weak, He wouldn't be to surprised.
"Hey." A voice ran through the cell.
"Oh, it's you." Grian muttered. Of course it was him. Another hallucination(?) sending him down the spiral of insanity.Another voice, another person he probably met in a past life. That androgynous voice would always find a way to torture him, weather it be making Grian bang his head in the wall or just talk to him for hours, berading and insulting him.
"Why the long face?" He asks, mischief dripping from his voice. Grian could almost see his smile.
"It's not a very long face, thank you," the bird retorted. "I am actually happy, since I think I might leave this place soon."
"Aw why so soon? Did you not like our conversations?"
"No, I did not."
The voice scoffed. "Uhp- but- well that was mean!"What a pompous brat.
"What do you want this time?"
"Oh my, getting straight to the point? Ok then... I'm here because you made me, remember? I don't have a purpose! Well, other than making your life hell INSIDE of hell." The voice laughed at his own joke.
Grian huffed.
Lady death couldn't take him sooner, he supposed.
As Grian was trying to drift off to sleep, he heard 2 pairs of faint footsteps. Wait- footsteps?! He perked up and ran to the front of the cell to see who it was. A creature, much like the others, but it felt more human. It was dragging someone in It's chains and looking closer, Grian realized that was him.No- not him. Someone like him.
They looked the same but this one was a ghost. This ghost wore a green shirt and hat and looked like he was crying. Grian knew who this one was.
The creature stared at him with its unfazed, drawn on smile, causing Grian to crawl back to the back to the cage. It opened the door and pushed the ghost through aggressively.
The ghost weakly looked up at him, before the creature came inside and took Grian. Quickly, Grian thought up a plan. He couldn't just let his counterpart go through what he did! Grian elbowed the creature on it's stomach and spread his wings to make room. He grabbed the ghost before booting out of the cell-hopefully to try and get out of here."W-what are we doing?!" The counterpart screamed.
"Getting out of here." Was all he muttered.
"I'm Xel!" The ghost said. This wasn't the best time for introducing.
"I'm Grian, now let's learn more about eachother when we're not trying to get put into eternal punishment!"Turns out there were creatures here, but none passed by his cell anymore. Now, they were trying to capture him. The two ran through the tight and winding dreary halls while trying not to get captured by what his new ghost friend called 'guards.'
"Look!"Xel tugged at Grian and pointed at some kind of light at the end of the hall. This was it, he knew it. He would go through there and be out.
"Come on!" Grian maneuvered away from the guards with Xel in tow, and almost collapsed into the light.~~~
