TW: SH, ED, Abuse
Cate POV
Today I woke up like any other day. I could see the sun shining through the crack in the curtains as my wife lay sleeping besides me. Sandy softly snored as I got up out of bed placing a kiss on her forehead and entering the bathroom to shower before work. Working in a school I had to be up early, especially today as it was the first day of a new school year and I had just changed schools. After showering I sat in my bathrobe dying my hair with the hairdryer as my wife watched me from our bed, a smile plastered across her face. I applied light makeup, then I put on my suit, heels and jewellery. I made my way over to her and pulled her in for a kiss before I went downstairs grabbing some lunch for today. My wife greeted me at the door, kissing me before I left and locking the door after me as I got into my car and began the journey to the new school. I knew I'd be around an hour early, which would allow me to set up my classroom before the children arrived.
When I got to work, the hallways where desolate, nobody was walking down them except the odd teacher going between the staffroom for their coffee and their classrooms. A young girl then caught my eye, she was huddled on the floor in a scraggly looking hoodie, which was too big for her tiny fame and was covered in holes. She paired this with a pair of dirty black leggings, and some beat up converse, which were untied. I couldn't see her face clearly, only the straggly pieces of hair falling from within her hood which was pulled completely over her head. I entered my classroom, quickly putting down my things, in hopes that she would follow me inside but instead the door shut, and she had not. It was odd that a student was in school so early so I decided to go and invite her into the warmth of the classroom. I approach the door opening it and looking down at the girl still huddled up on the floor, tracing the cracks in the hallway floor below her. Kneeling down and placing my hand on her shoulder she jumped, moving away from me quickly.
Cate: "Hey, I'm Ms Blanchett. It's nice to meet you. What's your name?" The girl didn't speak or look up at me just continued to sit on the floor below me. I decided to sit down beside her, she looked cold, so I took off my blazer and wrapped it around her small frame. Eventually, she spoke under her breath.
Y/n: "Umm I'm y/n." Still not looking up at me I decided not to push it too far.
Cate: "We'll y/n it's nice to meet you." She finally looked up and me and smiled, but all I could see was a terrible purple ring around her right eye and a cut on her forehead. "Hey why don't we go sit on the sofa in my drama room? It's more comfortable than the cold floor and I don't have a class till later. I could tell your tutor you're with me if you'd like that?" She nodded her head, so I slowly stood up offering her my hand which she hesitantly took as she followed me inside, sitting on the sofa, pulling her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms protectively around them. "Who's your tutor y/n?"
Y/n: "Ms Taylor." With that I picked up the phone calling Ms Taylor to inform her of the situation, she said she would mark y/n in and that she would inform y/ns teachers of the situation allowing her time out of class today. I then pulled up a chair sitting away from her slightly, hopefully allowing her to feel safe.
Cate: "Can I ask y/n, where did that bruise come from? I'm not here to judge, only to help and I can promise you I will get you all of the help you need and keep you safe from whoever did this to you." Tears fell from y/ns eyes as her lip trembled and she began to breakdown.
Y/n: "My parents, their umm alcoholics. It's not their fault they just get drunk and angry. I should have stayed out of the way like normal, but I had to leave for school, and I woke them up and I didn't mean to." I was shocked, I've never had to deal with one of these situations before, but now one had confronted me, and I was not going to let her parents hurt her anymore. Sandy and I where foster parents, currently we weren't caring for anyone, but I had seen countless children come through our door with similar, troubled pasts and I felt for y/n, I knew Sandy would want to help her too.
