Day 20

Sarah woke up and she went through her morning routine. She washed her face and got dressed all in black just like her girl clothes will be. She had everything ready and fed Azure and had him potty. She put on her milk bag, her jewelry bags and her knives. She was ready to go. She put on her pouch, cloak, gloves and had twenty five gold in each pocket with her coin purse on her belt. She went down to breakfast.

She sat down and said to the fae man, "Can I have breakfast and tea please?"

He smiled and said, "Six coppers. You are Sar. I'm Jules. My sister was talking about you and her going out to the festival. Are you entering the archery contest?" Sarah put the money down.

Sarah said, "Yes, I am."

The innkeeper Jules said, "You think you can win against elves?"

Sarah said, "I guess we'll wait and see. Won't we, Jules?" He chuckled and went and got her the tea and a plate of eggs, beans, mutton steak and toast." Sarah enjoyed it.

He said as she was leaving, "I hope you win later on." Sarah waved goodbye.

She went and sold all her jewelry which was a substantial amount. She came back to the inn around 11am and counted and deposited 1000 gold coins into her necklace making her gold total to 5250 gold. She bought a beautiful emerald set of earrings and a pendant. She bought a small garnet set with teardrop pendant and earrings. She got an old small celtic ruby gold ring that was for magical protection for thirty five gold. The man did not have his magical jewelry out unless you asked to see the tray. She found a fancy 4x2 inch gold inset tiled fire opal owl with spread wings pendant on a gold chain. It was beautiful.

Sarah had the oval ruby ring on her left pinky and the luck emerald ring on her right pinky. She fed Azure and was ready with her gloves, cloak, pouch and bow and arrows set on her back. She had another dose ready. Sarah locked up and went down to get Murial.

She went down and saw Murial waiting for her on a stool at the counter. Sarah said, "Hi." Murial smiled.

She jumped up and took Sarah's arm and they went out to the festival.

As they walked, Murial said, "You'll be my male friend, until you change clothes. I hope you win. I didn't tell my brother you're a girl. He thinks you're my new prospect." Sarah giggled.

Sarah said, "You're my girl. Let me treat you to lunch then after I register." They laughed and went straight to the archery contest area and Sarah registered her fancy bow and arrows. The man said he never saw such fine craftsmanship. She was in. She let Murial pick the place to eat. She got a chicken sandwich with chips or fried potatoes and a mead.

At 1:20pm they called everyone who was registered to the qualifying field. Sarah hit every bullseye straight on. She got to the final round after going through a hundred and forty six people. They were down to four contestants, Sarah, two male elves and a human male. One elf and a human were knocked out of the last round. It was down to the one elf and Sarah. The elf went first and hit it straight into the bullseye. Sarah shot her arrow straight down the middle of his arrow splitting it down and knocked the tip right off the target and took its place. It was a million to one shot unbelievable. The crowd jumped to their feet cheering the elf looked over at her in complete amazement. He reached out and pulled her hood down. Sarah turned to him with wide eyes and the crowd gasped as well as the elf next to her. It got silent and creepy.
