"Do you follow me everywhere?" Danbi smiled at Jihoon who was trailing behind her. "I heard Yoshi abandoned you to go to class early. How are we feeling today?" Jihoon dropped his arm around a shoulder, a habit to remind her how short she is.

"Peachy. Got this killer headache, don't want to attend class for the love of god. But I have submissions" She gave a tired look at him. "How about you escape class a bit early today? There's a food truck carnival that's opened up" Jihoon suggested, ruffling her hair.

"Are the others coming?"

"Just you and me."

Danbi masked the surprise in her eyes, giving a quick glance at the boys eyes to see if he was playing around with her but it seemed genuine. It had been weeks since they started this little bet of playing around with their friends, to say that their friends were doing everything in their being to find out why the two were acting like that made Danbi giggle every night.

"I don't know, I have a really important mid term project to submit tomorrow morning" Danbi casted her eyes to the ground, wondering wether she should just take up his offer.

"Oh come on, how important is this project?" Jihoon whined, "Like half my grade. I miss this, I practically fail" Danbi mumbled as she shrugged. "Just for dinner, I'll have you back by nine?" He suggested, eyes pleading her.

Jihoon was right, she could just go to this carnival, have some fun and be back by nine — she'll be able to complete the project before one. It was an easy plan.

"Fine, I'm on board" Danbi gave in to his pleads as he threw a triumph fist in the air. "I hope this isn't some joke, Park!" Danbi yelled at the excited boy down the hallway. "I thought we were past that, Hong!"

Were they ever past that?

Danbi wondered, her soaked her sticking to her skin. She was probably sure her mascara was running down her cheeks due to the awful amount of rain. She should've worn waterproof — there was no use now, it had almost been an hour since she had been standing in the rain.

Everyone in the carnival had either gone home due to the bad weather closing down some of the rides or had taken shelter in some stores that were open.

Danbi's feet were glued to the ground. Despite not having an umbrella and the shops telling her they could not take her in due to the amount of people already inside.

So she sat on one of the benches hoping that Jihoon would appear, probably giving her the excuse that his bus ran late. She waited, and waited, and waited. She was almost about to give Jihoon another call, the thrity fourth this evening — after all it had become nine thirty, thirty minutes after the time Jihoon had promised to take her home.

Her phone chimed with a text, she hurriedly put in her passcode, assuming it was Jihoon. Instead it was his friend, Yena sending an attachment with a message.

[ 9:34 PM ] YENA: Hey, I don't know what going on between you and Jihoon but I was guessing you had something romantic going on

[ 9:34 PM ] YENA: i don't want to ruin anything between you two but

[ 9:36 PM ] YENA: I saw jihoon and his ex chatting at the college cafe

[ 9:37 PM ] YENA: they were giggling and laughing and they left together

[ 9:37 PM ] YENA: I didn't think much about it as jihoon texted on the group saying he was out for dinner with her

[ 9:37 PM ] YENA: but then hyewon messaged me giggling about how you two were supposed to be together to go the fair

[ 9:38 PM ] YENA: did he not say anything to you? or did you not say anything to hyewon?

It was too good to be true.

Danbi sneezed, pushing back her tears in. She was supposed to finish her project, get an A on that. She was not supposed to have small little feelings for Jihoon. She wasn't supposed to be treated like this. They were supposed to be friends.

So why did Danbi feel like they never got past it?
