SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA

12:40 p.m

6th Friday, March 2020.

Chin-hae was far from angry.

He was anxious. So anxious and worried that his leg bounced, his forehead broke into sweat making his bangs uncomfortable against his skin.

Chin-hae was deeply worried for the stranger on the other side of the phone.

He laughed.

In the past, he had stuck to his societal norms so faithfully that even if they rejected him, he still stuck around. It was clear the other person, possibly the only alive human on the face on the planet was clearly not Korean. He knew his parents would be up in arms if he ever associated with not only culturally differing individual but also race, but clearly at the moment, it seemed she would be all he had left.

His said parents were gone, Chin-hae was certain.

The matter made him question, just how many road and air accidents had happened when the disaster struck with no warning.

He was aware majority of the people who first inhaled the gas had never woken up to date and he shuddered at the thought of them dying in their sleep;how long would a human body survive without food and water ?

May be some of them were gone too just like his parents who were on a flight to Europe on the doomsday. He was supposed to mourn but Chin-hae felt too many emotions, he could barely tell what to focus on.

Was he supposed to mourn yet be worried for the little stranger on the other side of the globe?

Would she make it, what if she inhaled the gas and never awoke ?

Was he to feel scared if he was to remain alone ?

Was he to be vengeful towards the community that neglected his very being all because he was too intelligent?

Was he to be hopeful and struggle to find a way to help ?

He was confused.

Chin-hae paced the floor numerous times, checked his phone, turned on and off the televised every twenty minutes from the previous day.

Ding !

He almost jumped but with trembling hands an evidence of his anxiety, he pulled his phone from his pocket and stared at the screen.

Kay :

Hello,
Thank God someone has seen this ! Please, something strange is going on. I, myself keep waking up from series of disturbing dreams and as it stands, I may be stuck again in this sleep. Please help !

Chin-hae knew the content of the dream is what would help identify the gas.

A strange phenomenon but he was willing to try so he did not hesitate in quickly texting back.

Chin-hae :
Tell me more about your dream.

He hoped she would still be awake, and she was, judging from her jumbled text that she immediately sent. He was more frustrated.

Chin-hae:
Try to recall every detail in your dream.

Chin-hae sighed, the longer it took the more lives would be lost and possibly a ‘ zombie out break’.

He sipped a cold soda almost sweating at the temperature in his home but he knew it was important. It was the only way he could sleep because unlike others, the gas only resulted in him not being able to sleep at all.

He perched on the edge of the desk, absently waiting for a pop-up. Something he felt was unlikely, she must have passed out again in an unwanted slumber.

Chin-hae cursed and for a moment he wished he would slumber like the rest but just as he was about to throw another tantrum another question popped into his mind.

How did Kay manage to wake up ?
