Hopes POV
"Hope, it's time for you to get to your job." My dad said. After the incident I had with Luke, I didn't want to work.
"Fine." I said. I got to the cafeteria and someone was there to help me. I got the hang of it. I started serving corn, strawberries, hotdogs. You name it. Until I saw him. Luke. He was in line, In my lane.
"Hope." He said nodding.
"Hello, Luke, or is it the judgmental prick." I scoffed.
"Oh I see. Well I would like some fries, and a salad please." He smiled.
" Ok, no prob." I falsely smiled. Okay, I need to keep in tact. Don't let him get to you. Just smile, and serve.
"Here you are." I gave him his food.
"Uh-no. There isn't an even amount of fries to my croutons. Everyone knows I like it even." He scoffed.
"Well, you see, I don't think my boss would allow that. And if she did, it isn't fair for anyone else getting food. So no." I was so annoyed at this point.
"Give me what I want now. Or I'll throw all of this food in your hair." he smiled.
"Go ahead, I'm sticking to what I believe is right. I'm not gonna give into the likes of you." I sounded confident.
"Fine." He threw his fries at me.
"Okay Luke, are you done? You know with your childish games? I understand your life is shit, but that doesn't mean you can lash out at people." I said. I realized that I sound like Poppy..?
"Oh really, because you just did that..what? Two hours ago!" He screamed.
"Screw you Nick! At least I admit to my problems! Stop bottling them up, until here you are lashing out on 'the new girl'." I said.
"Do you not remember the first time we met?" He asked. Oh I remember. I was soo angry that goddamn day..
"Yes, and that's why I tried to apologize two hours ago. Until you said shit that pissed me off." I said.
"Ok whatever.." He trailed off.
"Hey Luke, I know your having a hard time, considering you have cancer, and I'm no one to judge also considering I have my own problems. But I just wanna be friends, you know? I don't want anymore enemies.." I said.
"Ya. I'd like that. uh-you got some fries in your uh hair." He awkwardly said.
"Haha, ya. Well I gotta get back to work so I'll see ya later... Do you want even croutons and fries?" I laughed.
"No, I was just playing, and being an ass. Sorry bout that." He laughed.
"It's cool see ya." I said as he walked away.
.....
Finally, day one of work completed. It was really hard and stressful. Some of those assholes can be real assholes. But somehow I stayed calm. Even with Luke. I can't believe it, but it makes me happy. I'm so happy, I finally took one step forward.
"Sweetheart..." My dad came in screaming, and I was almost asleep. I immediately thought the worst. Mom, Luke, Tyler, death. My breathing hitched. I felt like I was choking on my own breath.
"What." I finally managed to say, after what felt like 5 minutes.
"It's Tyler..he..." My dad look liked hell, the definition of. My dad couldn't finish his sentence, he had bloodshot eyes. My mind was going crazy with thoughts. When can I have a break? When will life give me a break?
"Dad, t-ell me.." I managed to say while sobbing.
"He passed awa-" he stopped and started to cry. A lot.
"Tyler committed suicide." He managed to say, so I could understand.
Committed. That means he did it. He's really dead. After many attempts, he really did it, because of me....And You know what they say, one step forward, two steps back.
