Swirl's POV

I flip through the pages in my books, reading through new spells to try. Something, anything. Maybe a spell that could help heal the migraines or being back the memories. Unfortunately, I know it's a lost cause since I know how the spell works. I know how the spell works. I know that I lied.

I heard my phone vibrate and my cat Echo calling me to get it. I scratched behind his ear and let him go, "Not now, why you take a nap my number one assistant."

He purred and floated off to his bed.

I dug myself back into my books, looking for anything to keep the spell stable and to lessen James' pain. I know it's all just how the spell works. I hate that I know how the spell works.

At the corner of my eyes, I noticed the book. Black cover with purple pages. Very hard to read unless you have the blue light needed to see it well. Part of me wanted to see if maybe there was something in there that could help, part of me never wanted to see the book again and burn it somewhere. It was an argument with myself and the first part was winning.

I levitated it over to me and turned to the first page, turning on the blue lights above my desk. "Creating a Copy" shimmered in sliver writing.

"Dark magic is a cryptic language made by the most powerful witches to try and control nature, to seek power within environment, to control life and death. Only the most powerful yet weak fall down the path. The spells beyond these pages and others have taken more souls than given, and the souls given suffer horrible consequences that their masters would fail to understand. Beware as once a spell is read there's no way to undo it. Once the soul is alive there's no going back."

The spell I chose from these pages was no better than necromancy but worse than any lie. I told Adam this would bring James back to life but it didn't. Maybe it's better if he never knows.

He's already mad at me. I don't need him to be even more upset.
