ELSIE

I woke up in a startle. Looking around at the dark gray walls, I realized I was at Austin's.

Of course I'm here, dumbass.

Over the course of me being here this had happened almost every morning. But each time I felt a sense of relief. Maybe Nox had done more damage than I'd realized.

It took me a second before noticing I was in Austin's bed. I patted around the soft satin sheets trying to locate my phone, finding it under the pillow and groggily unlocking it.

My eyes widened to see a long text from Nox. My heart fluttered— but I couldn't tell if it was excitement or disappointment.

"Good morning baby. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry, for the way I acted. And what I did to Austin. I would love it if we could meet up and talk? I want to be better, you know that. Just know that I love and miss you so much."

My stomach sank. I wanted to believe him, I really did.

But then again, this time could be different. Like me leaving and not giving in could've scared him?

That was the Nox I loved, that was the Nox I knew that he really was. The Nox I fell in love with.

I tugged at my lip, processing.

What harm would it be if I went to just talk?

I made my decision.

Scuttering across the bedroom I peeked through the cracked door. Austin was passed out on the couch - Good. I didn't even want to think about what happened last night, nonetheless talk about it.

Truth or dare – How did we end up there?

Hastily I slipped on one of the dresses I bought around Thanksgiving. This one was a dark forest green with long flared sleeves. A floor length mirror critiqued my appearance when I turned to the side sucking in my stomach then letting out the breath.

Sighing, I brought my purse over and searched for a small pouch filled with travel-sized makeup. I coated my lashes in mascara quickly, like I was on some sort of time limit. Lining my lips first then topping with gloss. Finally, I brushed out my bird's nest hair and drenched it in dry shampoo.

I slung my bag over my shoulder and slowly made my way out, tip toeing towards my door to not wake Austin. The wooden flats creaked under my weight causing my eyes to scrunch and my body to stay painfully still.

He tussled around then let out a yawn.

"Where are you going?" He croaked, his voice deep and raspy from sleep.
