Chapter 7

As the three walk towards the smoke, Robin's breath catches in her throat. This is what Elyse had meant. But she failed to mention that it very likely may end badly. Robin started to walk faster, getting ahead of Steve and Nancy. She needed to stop Elyse before it was to late. Before she could get any farther, she felt a hand grab her wrist. It was Nancy.

"What are you doing?" Nancy questioned, Robin fighting against her grip. "I'm going to stop Elyse before she gets herself killed." Robin said, tugging her arm from Nancy's hand. Nancy sighed, "If you try doing that, you're just going to get yourself killed too. Maybe Elyse can do this. Maybe it'll be fine." Nancy said, trying desperately to believe her own words. Robin rolled her eyes. "I'm not taking that chance. I refuse to just sit by and watch her get killed, thank you very much." She said, walking towards the smoke. As Nancy tried to go after her, Steve put a hand on her shoulder, stopping her. "She's stubborn. She's not going to listen to you." He said, standing next to Nancy, watching Robin walk farther. "I know. They both are." She said, a small laugh left her mouth. Steve shared the laugh, a single tear falling from his eye.

As Elyse stood in front of Vecna, hand raised in front of her, blood falling from her nose. He stood there, mirroring her, both of them pushing against the other, standing their ground. Neither one backing down. As Robin approached, Vecna had a sinister smirk appear on his face. Redirecting his powers to Robin, causing her to go into a trance. Elyse raised her other hand, screaming, "LET. HER. GO." As she pushed against him, pushing her powers farther than she ever has.

Robin drops to the ground as Elyse pushes Vecna backwards. Robin rushes to get up, Nancy running to help her up. Robin tried running towards Elyse, Nancy holding her back. Elyse walks towards Vecna, her powers surging through, causing his body to buckle. His hand snaps up, catching Elyse off guard, her powers faltering. As he gains control over her, she tries fighting against his grasp. Robin screaming out, telling her to fight. Tears streaming down both Robin and Nancy's faces.

Elyse screams out in agony, her hand snapping up, pushing him back, his chest opening. As he implodes against himself, Elyse falls to the ground. Robin breaks against Nancy's grip, running to Elyse.

As she reaches her, blood dripping from her nose and eyes. Elyse coughing, blood spluttering on her mouth. Robin places Elyse's head in her lap, pulling her in. Elyse's eyes fluttering, she grabs onto Robin's hand, squeezing it three times. A small tear escaping Robin's eye. "Hey, hey, I got you okay? You're gonna be fine." Robin says, tears flowing down her face. "Ro-robin.... I....lo-lo-love.. you." Elyse says, choking up more blood. "No, don't say that because you think you're dying. Because you aren't dying okay. You. Are. Not. Dying." Robin says, choking it out through tears.

Steve finally catches up to Nancy. As he tries to walk forward towards Elyse and Robin, she stops him. "Wha-" Nancy glances at him. "Just give them a second, okay." She tells him, Steve realizing what she means. "How the hell did she even do that?" He asks, Nancy giving a look as to say I'll tell you later. As Robin leans over Elyse's body, placing a soft kiss on her forehead, a small cry leaves her lips.

Elyse grabs Robins cheek, wiping the tears from her eyes. She pulls her face down, placing a kiss on her lips. "I love you, Robin. Always." She manages to choke out, her consciousness slowly going in and out. Her eyes flutter closed just as Robin says, "I love you too. Always." Elyse's body goes still, one final breath. The smoke dissipates, clearing the sky. Nancy walks over to the two, kneeling down next to Robin. She places a gentle hand on her back. "Robin. We have to go. We need to...." She can't manage to finish the sentence. Robin just looks at her, tear stained cheeks, red, puffy eyes. She doesn't want to leave Elyse's side. She knows she has to, but she just can't.
