When you live in a small town there are only so many things to do. I live in a very small town with one store, one restaurant, and one church. It's a very cookie-cutter town. We have this one attraction that opens for October. Its the Haunted Corn Maze. Being one of the only attractions, and only open for a month, it was a big deal.
Every Friday night the " Haunt" would start. People would pay twenty to thirty dollars to get into the maze. A huge plus was if you had kids there was a non-haunted corn maze that is rather easy. There is a lot of fun games and stuff too. There is even a guy called Clem Creep. He has a very scary, realistic, gory mask and some props he uses to scare people who are waiting for the maze.
My friends and I were walking through the non-haunted maze while we waited for the line of the other to get shorter. Both mazes were right next to each other so you could hear the scares getting ready. It was dark and we only had flashlights and glow sticks. Inevitably I got separated from the group.
I walked around aimlessly for a good thirty minutes. I didn't know where I was or how to get out. Plus there was no cell service. To top it off my only source of light was starting to die. The sound of people getting scared in the Haunted maze wasn't helping either.
After a while, I saw what looked like a scarer. His back was to me but I decided to ask him for the way out. As I got closer there was a sickening smell. Like dead fish and roadkill. His costume was too real and I turned back.
eventually made it out of the maze, met my friends, and went through the haunted one. It was fun and when we were out it was better. We decided to buy a drink before we went home. I mentioned the man and my friends froze. They asked questions like " How tall he was." Or " What was he wearing?" I told them exactly what I saw and they took me to the manager.
When the manager heard what I saw he called the police and shut the maze down. Every person there was rounded up and taken to a pavilion. The manager explained there was a dangerous inmate that had broken out of a nearby prison. He had been on the loose for five months and no one was to leave.
The police got here and found the man hiding in the normal maze with a knife. He was eating the corn and living in the miny games. The police took him away and told everyone it was safe to continue with our night.
I never heard of the man again. That was that. I still go to the maze with my friends. I just make sure I never get separated again.
