I was freaking out.
I woke up well-refreshed. I was supposed to do a stream with Tina, Brooke, Emma, and Karl today. When I checked my phone, I think I genuinely felt my heart sink to my feet. It fell to the floor in record time as I digested the words on the screen.
My heart was beating so quickly that it was nearly concerning. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that I felt as if my heart was about to beat its way through my chest.
The first think I noticed was a DM from Michelle on Twitter. My private twitter, the one I used to use in highschool, and had all my high school friends on it. Nobody from my new world would have known about it— not Brooke or Tina, not even George. The next I noticed was what they told me, that my younger sister was in a car accident. I felt chills, and then immediate panic.
At the news, I bursted into Tina's room already crying. They didn't know— I didn't tell anyone. None of them knew, because there was something sounding like shame that echoed in my ears every-time I remembered about it all. Nobody knew, but now everyone would know. They'd hate me. I tried to push it all back, but I continued felt so much regret. There was nothing I could have done but I still did everything wrong.
Tina, obviously, sensed something was very wrong at the way I ran into her arms. In seconds, I was engulfed by two loving pairs of arms, with reassuring words spilling into my ears.
But I didn't think I was ready to tell them, not yet.
I sat up a little, meeting Brooke and Tina's concerned gazes. "I need to go back to New York." I took a breath, feeling my heart ramming in my chest. I saw surprise plastered across their expression before they tried to neutralize it a second later. "My sister was in an accident."
