[ y/n's pov ]

"a little ball isn't going to hurt you!" my mom suggests.

"that's the thing, mom. it isn't a little ball, it's a huge one. it's coronation day, it's gonna be huge."

"well you can make friends," my mom suggests again, plastering her innocent smile on her face. i hate how my mom can be my best friend and my weak spot at the same time.

"i don't need friends," i murmur.

"then go for me, please?" she pleads.

i groan, in defeat. "i don't have a dress that's nice enough!" of course, stage two, excuses.

"i have the perfect one." my moms smirks, and im actually concerned.

"well- i don't have nice shoes." i shrug, still trying to escape this situation.

"just leave it to me," and my mother walks out of the living room, marching upstairs.

what did i just get myself into? going to that stupid ball is going to be extremely awkward. the two people i know (that are my age) live on the outer-skirts of the kingdom, so they aren't invited. and the only reason im invited is because my mom is friends with the queen. and really, i shouldn't be going, she should.

"y/nnie!" my mom calls, and i hear her footsteps trailing into the kitchen.

"yes ma'am.." i falter.

"i found it!"

"it?"

"the dress your grandmother wore to her first ball!"

"is there shoes?" i ask, taking my chances of not going.

"there's shoes," she glares at me, knowing my tactics.

"are you coming with me?"

"no sweetie, i cant," my mom pouts slightly.

"why?"

"work."

"but- your friends gonna are try to talk to me and ask weird questions i don't know the answer to."

"don't talk about jieun like that," she fakely lectures, "now hurry and get ready, you have two hours to get ready."

"it won't take me two hours-"

"y/n."

"yes ma'am," i rush upstairs with moms box. i make my way into my room, and toss the box on my bed, along with myself. i waste no time opening the box, which very much looked like an oversized shoe box, to reveal a stunning dress.

i cautiously took the dress out the box, laying it flat on my bed, and some shoes that matched with the dress sat at the bottom of the box. i adored the dress for a second, but then realized i actually have to go to the coronation ball thing. i frantically started looking for my baby lotion, and before anyone judges me, baby lotion is superior.

once i find my bottle of baby lotion, i start lotion to my ashy legs and arms, before changing my clothes.

--

"honey you look beautiful!" my mom compliments as i walk down the stairs, and almost stumble on the heels im wearing.

"are you sure you can't go with me?" i pout.

"no honey, i cant," and she actually sounds disappointed, making me slightly sad. "now let's hurry to the car, you don't want to be late."

--

okay, i did want to be late. because ever since my mom had dropped me off, ive been hiding behind the food bar for ten minutes. everyone's talking to someone else, enjoying their time here, and im stuffing my face with these fancy crackers with tuna (or some fish thing) on top of it.

"what are you doing back here?" some guy asks, looking at me as i stuff another cracker down my mouth.

"avoiding social interaction," i mutter.

"why?" he asks, before eating a cracker himself.

"because i dont know anyone here," i shrug.

"well, im jaehyun," he speaks before flashing me a bright smile.

"mhm," i hum, mentally arguing with myself about eating another cracker.

"and you are..?"

"oh- y/n."

"ive never heard that name before, neither have i ever seen you."

"same goes for you," i raise a brow.

"you have really smart mouth for someone who has no one to talk to," jaehyun cocks an eyebrow in return.

"i dont know if that was a compliment, but thank you." i reply, in the most polite tone i can muster up.

"who's this, jaehyun?" the queen walks up behind jaehyun.

"y/n," jaehyun turns that way he can see both me and the queen.

"y/n? as in jang y/n?"

"i dont k-"

"yeah," i speak for him.

"y/n! i haven't seen you in so long! look at you, all grown up! what are you doing back there? come, come here, darling!" the queen blabbers, and i step from behind the snack table bar thingy. the queen pinches my cheeks and then stretches them out.

"look at my y/nnie! all grown up! how's your mother doing?"

"she good-"

"great! tell her to reach out to me more often, id like to see her sometime this week!- have you met jaehyun?" she finally releases my cheeks, "he's my nephew! isnt he just adorable?" she goes for jaehyuns cheeks instead.

"now y/n," the queen releases jaehyuns cheeks, "you do know why you're here, right?"

"because my mom asked me too?"

"no darling, here, come with me now, hurry along," she struts off to some empty room in her palace.

"i don't get it, is there a reason why im here?" i ask.

"yes sweetie, you know my son, soobin?"

"yes ma'am," i mutter.

"todays his coronation day, and every king needs a queen, so, we were planning on arranging a marriage for the both of you."
