Beep! Beep! Beep!
My alarm screamed at me to get up. What time is it? I thought as I pulled my phone out. 8:00 in the morning! "Gah! I'm gonna be late for school. Again!" I cried as I leapt out of bed, tripping down the stairs that lead to my bed.
Hang on a second, you don't know my name. I'm sorry about that, you've probably already guessed by that opening part. My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng and I was late for a special project at my high school.
I steadied myself before I changed out of my pyjamas and into my usual outfit. I pulled out my 3/4 length sleeved grey jacket with pink polka dots inside; my white U-neck shirt that had a flower pattern across the right of my chest; my pink 3/4 length jeans and my pink slip-on shoes.
Tikki floated to my side as I pulled my purse-bag over my shoulders. I grabbed my sketchbook and some drawing materials, shoving them in my backpack. "What are those for?" Tikki asked curiously, looking at my materials.
"I'm working on a design for special notepads that my friends have asked for." I informed quickly. "Hide, Tikki." I said as she flew into my open purse. I clipped it shut and raced downstairs with my backpack slung over my shoulder. "Morning, Mum. Morning Dad." I called as I raced through the bakery, grabbing a baked croissant from the tray.
"Don't forget that you're helping us with the cake for Alya's birthday tonight." Mum said softly as I stopped abruptly, giving them kisses.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." I promised as I raced to school. If I was late, I'd get into trouble with the detention robot. You're probably wondering what that's all about? Well in Paris, we have robots to assist us in many ways. Such as nurse bots, electrician bots, firefighter bots, T. A. bots et. cetera et. cetera.
I made it into the building as the bell went. I ran to Miss Bustier's classroom. I paused before opening the door quietly and made my way to my bff. "What did I miss?" I whispered as Miss Bustier started explaining about today's task.
"Not a lot, just the register and that's it." Alya whispered back as I sighed in relief.
"Marinette..." I looked up front and saw Miss Bustier looking my way. "Could you please tell us why it's important to respect the wildlife?"
"Because pollution is a very serious problem. Say if you've just finished pack of soda and you dump the plastic rings that kept them in place the pond instead of the recycling. You're hurting the aquatic life in that area, because the fish can get their fins caught on the plastic and trapping them. Also creatures like turtle, might think that it's food and try eating it, causing serious health problems." I explained as everyone looked at me in shock.
"Well explained, Marinette." Miss Bustier praised me as everyone looked back to the front. "It's important to find different ways to be environmentally friendly, such as using material bags instead of plastic, placing plastic and metals in the recycling as well as many more."
The lesson finished about half an hour later and we all made our way to the art room. Once we all started working on our projects, Alya came and sat next to me. "You got anything planned this evening?" She asked as she looked at my sketchbook. She know's that there's a surprise party for her in a few days. But I'm not supposed to say anything.
"Not really, just working on these notepads everyone wants. Which reminds me, I've got a really good idea for yours." I answered as I started sketching.
"Can I see?" She wondered aloud as she peeked over at it. My idea for her one is that it would look like newspaper articles with Ladybug on the front.
"Not until it's done." I told her as she moaned. I closed it up and grabbed every single newspaper article there was about Ladybug. I started carefully cutting out different sections and started sticking them to the front cover. About 15 minutes later, I worked on Ladybug's image. I know how much Alya admires Ladybug so I thought a journal based on her 'Ladyblog' would be a nice present. I told myself as Paper Ladybug looked amazing. I stuck her on and covered it all in a layer of resin, making sure that the holes were clear for me to assemble it.
"Nicely done, Marinette."
I turned around and found Adrian sitting next to me.
"It's something I'm forking..." I stuttered automatically correcting myself. "I'm working on for Alya's birthday." My face felt like it was burning. Why can't I just have a normal conversation with him without mixing up my words! I silently fumed as he smiled at me, making me blush even more.
"Well, if I was her, I'd be really lucky to have a bestie like you." He told me as he looked through my designs. "These are amazing! I think Mark and Nathaniel will love this one." He pointed to the comic one I'd come up with.
"I hope so." I muttered as I got started on the one for Alix. Adrian left me to get on with it. I sighed as he left. Well, at least I didn't say anything embarrassing. I told myself as I worked on the graffiti style cover. By the end of the day, I gotten everything done. Phew. Now it was time to actually give them their notepads.
First, I gave Mark and Nathaniel's theirs. "You've outdone yourself, Marinette." Mark praised as he admired the pads.
"I agree, this will do nicely for comic ideas." Nathaniel complimented as they thanked me.
Next was Kim's. His was a sports style cover, since he was into athletics. I got a good reaction from him as I moved on to giving Max's one, Juleka's, Rose's, Melen's and everyone else's. I got really nice reactions out of all of them. The last one was Alya's. I was ready to approach her but thoughts nagged in the back of my mind. What if she doesn't like? What if she thinks I'm taking the mick out of her adoration for Ladybug. I tried to put them out of my mind as I sat next to her station in the art room.
"Hey, Alya. It's done." I said as I handed it over.
"Really? Thanks, Marinette." She exclaimed taking the book from me. She looked at it curiously. I knew it, she hates it. I'm the worst friend ever! "Marinette, this is absolutely incredible!" She admitted proudly, giving me a hug. "You don't need to get me anything for my birthday, this is more than enough."
"I was afraid you didn't like it for a moment." I whispered as I hugged her back.
Hours later, school was finished for the day. I needed to get home and make that cake, Alya's birthday was two day's away! I walked home as an Akuma Alert went off. I clicked on the newsfeed and found this rainbow coloured weirdo with a spiral in the middle of his forehead. Cat Noir was already there. Not good. I raced around the corner into an alleyway. "Paris needs us. Tikki, spots on!" I cried.
