Adrian's POV:
As the day wore on, my mind would shut up about how I'd react if Marinette was Ladybug and I kept making stupid mistakes. Take our science lesson for example, we were experimenting with zinc pellets and a solution to make them grow spikes. Instead of putting in a few drops of a certain chemical, I ended up putting in the whole lot.
"Sorry." I apologised as me and Nino had to start again.
It's hard trying to focus when you're thinking one of your closest friends is the one you're in love with. Thankfully, science was our last lesson because our P. E. teacher pulled a muscle while training for a marathon. So technically, I still had some time before I had to be home. I got in the car and buckled my seatbelt. "Can we go to the hospital, please? It's important. Plus I don't have to be home for another hour." I insisted as my bodyguard slowly agreed and started driving.
We arrived at the hospital and I got out of the car. "Is it alright if I go in on my own?" I asked as he grunted and waited as I walked inside. The door slid open as I stepped inside the reception area, I walked over to the front desk and one of the reception bots came over.
"How may I assist you?" It asked in a friendly voice.
"Could I visit Marinette Dupain-Cheng, please?" I asked as the robot nodded.
"Down that hallway, take the first left then go through the second door on the right." The nurse bot instructed as I thanked it.
I followed the directions and found myself outside the second door on the right. I reached for the handle but something made me hesitate. What's the matter with you, Adrian?! Just go in there. I thought as I pulled the handle down and opened the door, shutting it behind me quickly.
I turned around and saw Marinette lying on the bed. She had an oxygen mask on as well as being attached to a heart rate monitor, that beeped steadily. My heart felt like it would stop from shock. What the heck is wrong with me. I raged as I pulled a chair close to the bed and sat down next to her. "I must be totally crazy..." I said as Plagg flew in front of Marinette.
"Adrian, what are you doing? You know yours and Ladybugs identity must remain a secret!" He exclaimed.
"I know, Plagg, but just because I know about her's doesn't mean she has to know about mine." I said as Plagg flew closer to me.
"Adrian! Think about this. What you do now will most likely destroy the future!" Plagg exclaimed as I nearly fell off of the chair from his outburst. He was right about that. I thought as I managed to stop myself from confirming my suspicion.
I held her hand in mine. Maybe my love for Ladybug was making me see connections that aren't really there?
I started talking to her, unsure she could hear me. I recalled moments we shared together, even some awkward ones. Plagg made comments as to which ones I should be talking about. I got to the part about her 14nth birthday party as the door opened. Plagg flew back into my bag as it creaked open.
Fifteen earlier...
Alya's POV:
As soon as Miss Bustier made that announcement, Adrian started acting weird. Lessons went by and he kept getting lost in his thoughts and kept making mistakes he doesn't usually make. Something's wrong with that dude? I thought as the bell rang. As everyone left the school, I pulled Nino to one side.
"Nino, I need to talk to you." I said as I grabbed his hand and led him to one of the benches.
"What's the matter, dudette?" He asked as we sat down on a bench.
"Haven't you noticed that Adrian's acting a little off?" I said getting right to the point.
"Yeah. Not sure why though. You think he's worried about Marinette?"
My eyes widened in shock. If he goes to the hospital to see Marinette? If he saw Ladybug get cataclysmed earlier, her secret's out! My mind screamed. "I need to head to Marinette's place and tell her parents." I half-lied quickly standing up and dashing out the door. I will go see Mr. and Mrs. Dupain-Cheng but first Rena Furtive needs to do a little recon.
I slipped into an alleyway and Trixx flew out of my bag. "Alya, what's going on?"
"We've got to get the hospital now! TRIXX, LETS POUNCE!!!" I cried as he flew into my necklace and my camouflage costume appeared. I raced across many rooftops keeping the car in sight. After following it for a few minuets, the car pulled up outside the hospital. I stayed hidden but watched as Adrian entered the building.
Marinette's going to kill me if anyone finds out she's Ladybug, especially if it's Adrian! I thought as I waited a few minuets before jumping down into an alleyway. "Let's rest." I muttered as my costume disappeared. Trixx flew into my bag as I handed him a grape. I made sure the coast was clear before walking across the road and into the hospital. I went into the building, taking a deep breath before walking up to the reception bot.
"How may I assist you?" It queried.
"I'd like to see Marinette Dupain-Cheng." I said quickly as the robot gave me the directions.
I sped down the hallway and went to go in the second door on the right as I heard something. It was quiet but it was definitely Adrian's voice along with someone else. Who else is in there? I thought as I pushed the door open and shut it behind me. I turned around and found Adrian staring at me in shock. "Alya? What are you doing here?" He asked, tilting his head to the side quizzically as he instantly let go of Marinette's hand.
"Seeing how my best friend is holding up." I said back as I pulled another chair close to Marinette's bed. She didn't look too good. The oxygen mask was still on and there was a clip attached to her right forefinger, connecting her to the heart rate monitor beside the bed. Although the blanket over the top of her covered the wound, I knew what damage that cataclysm did to her. I sat down next to Adrian who looked just as worried. "So what are you doing here?" I asked as he looked back to the bed.
"Trying to hope that whatever caused this won't be permanent." He answered as rubbed her hand gently. "What do you think happened?"
"I don't know, but we need to have faith that she'll recover." I said as worry tinged my voice. I can't tell him what actually happened because everyone is meant to believe that Rena Rouge is no more. I told myself as Adrian stood up.
"I have to get going, or Father is going to kill me." He said as I nodded.
"Adrian, was there someone else in here with you?" I blurted as he looked at me curiously. "I thought I heard you talking to someone before I came in here."
"I think you heard my puppet impersonations, I thought Marinette would find it funny." He explained as he started doing different voices with mimed puppet hands. I laughed as he did his little performance.
"Alright. I'll see you later, Adrian." I waved goodbye as he left the room, shutting the door behind him.
As soon as I was alone, I checked the blanket and it didn't seem like someone had tampered with it. No crease marks, like someone had bent the corner forward. I sighed in relief as Tikki and Trixx flew out of my bag and floated next to me. Tikki gasped as she floated to Marinette's side. Trixx flew next to Tikki, she looked like she was going to have a meltdown. Who can blame her? I feel the same way. I thought as Tikki gave Marinette a small hug. Trixx patted Tikki on the back as they sat down on the bed.
