2 days until the attack

Location: Iran - Gilan province
Time: 11:00 PM
Pov: Octopus

Nøkk and I were getting ready to head out closer to the MOB, where I was gonna plant explosives on one of the outer walls of the base, so when we finally did attack there would be an opening for us. Nøkk was gonna keep overwatch while I did my thing. The three others would stay here and keep an eye on the equipment and the cameras. During the last two weeks we have been working non-stop to gather all the information we could possibly get our hands on. Base layout, equipment and weaponry the guards were carrying, the guards rotation, how many were on shift at the same time, marked weak points in the base's infrastructure, everything. During the last 24 hours we could sometimes see the Iranian anti-aircraft guns lighting up the sky on the horizon and the faint sound of artillery booming. Harry had called a week ago and told us that a detachment from a regiment from some Army colonel called Garrison, had received orders on the second day into the invasion, to head straight towards our position. It looked like they may be able to make it. "You ready Nøkk?" I swung the back pack with the 25 Kgs of C4 explosives over my shoulder. "Yeah let's get this over with" she too swung something on her back, except this was an M24 sniper rifle. I actually didn't know Nøkk was an expert sniper on both land and sea. I picked up my own rifle and went for the door. With a gangster grandmotherly like tone I said "this will probably take some time y'all, don't stress if we ain't back within the next couple of hours. If you hear a volly of gunshots, then you should definitely stress. Until then I wish all of you sweet dreams" Nøkk groaned and started pushing me out of the door "stay safe Oppa!" I chuckled while Nøkk was already ahead of me.

We were now laying on a hill less than 500 meters from the MOB. Nøkk had just set up her sniper and adjusted it, she wasn't planning on using it but if it came to it she without a doubt would. "Did you call your family before we left Hereford?" I asked. The question came out of nowhere but the curiosity had been nagging at me ever since we boarded the plane. She had turned her head and looked at me "I did, yes. Why do you ask?" She was surprised I could tell "I was curious if anybody you cared about knew you were on some above dangerous mission. I myself told my sister" She looked through the scope mounted on the M24 again "yes I heard you two when I went to my room, and yes I called my mother. Dad isn't in the picture, no siblings" I was taken aback by her willingness to all of a sudden share something about her personal life, after all the woman puts a whole new meaning to the phrase 'I value my privacy' "I'm not gonna pry into it if you don't feel comfortable with it. Just let me know if there is something you want to talk about, if there is any problems in you personal life for example. It can be though to tackle a challenge or carry a burden on your own, I should know* there was silence until I spoke again, not feeling I got my point across well enough. Nøkk I hope you know that I care about your well being, even tho I don't know your name or know what you look like. I have been with Rainbow for some time now, not nearly as long as you or the others but despite that I really do care. So if you ever need help with anything, I'm here." There was an awkward silence after that, Nøkk layed stiff as a board and after a minute or two she looked around. Almost like when you are doing something you aren't supposed to be doing. I also looked at her and was about to ask what she was looking for, but before I could do that she turned to me, looked at me for a second, lifted her hand and put it on top of her veil, grabbed it and pulled it down. Out of instinct I quickly turned my eyes in the other direction, I was trying to compute what she had just done. I didn't get long to think about it when she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper "Mads, please look at me" I slowly turned my head back to her and even tho it was night time the clear sky made way for the moonlight. It lit up here face and features. She was beautiful, gorgeous even. She had grey/light blue eyes that glinted in the moonlight, her hair was jet black and reached down to her shoulders, even tho none of us had showered in two weeks it still looked amazing. She had pale skin which contrasted her slightly more dark lips, probably for all the black lipstick she wears, I know that because I once saw it when she had forgotten it in the bathroom. She had a nose that complimented her jawline nicely, plus I knew for a fact she wasn't wearing any makeup, because none of the girls was allowed to bring makeup on the operation. I blinked a few times to get myself back to reality "Nøkk what are you doing" I couldn't help the surprise in my voice. She just continued looking at me with a slight smile "just call me Karina Mads, I think you have earned the right to. Thank you, most people don't understand how hard it is to not be allowed to get close with others, and even something so basic as showing your face, or letting them know your name. Anyone I've met has just given up when I've told them I can't do those things, but you. You continued to put in an effort, you could have just been my roommate and stopped talking to me outside of missions, but you didn't. That's why I was so insistent on going to Tel Aviv to pick you up. I was sure that if you died I would have to look for an eternity to find someone that would do that for me again, if I ever would find someone again. So thank you" She sniffed slightly. I quite frankly didn't know what to do, I was touched by her words and it just made me realize how much I really cared about her. So I did what my body told me to. I gently placed my hand on her shoulder and started easing it back and forth "I'm glad and thankful you decided to trust me with this Karina. I promise you won't regret it. We can talk more about this later when I have planted the explosives" she wiped a tear and nodded. I picked up her veil and put it back on her head again "let's do this" the 500 meters to the outer was almost pure flat with sand and grass mixed. I needed to crawl all the way there and I had sand in places where sand shouldn't be allowed to be. I was starting to reach the 250 meter mark where the flood lights on the walls and guard towers shined back and forth. I heard over my ear-piece "Octopus flood light on you position in 5 seconds, freeze" I stopped dead in my tracks and saw the flood light get closer and closer. I planted my face in the dirt and waited for the inevitable. After five seconds Nøkk spoke to me again "you're clear for now, go" I crawled as quickly as I could before the next light would shine on me. This went on for a good fifteen minutes and I had just went unnoticed by the last flood light. I was now up against the outer base wall, I looked around for a good place to plant the C4. It had to be somewhere the patrols wouldn't see it easily since it would have to be there for two days. I looked further down and saw a large bush that almost leaned up against the wall. I could hear the footsteps of the guard walking back and forth above me on the wall, I had to be super quiet if I didn't want to get filled with lead. I very slowly and carefully made my way down towards the bush, my eyes glued to the ground so I wouldn't accidentally step on a stick or something. I was finally there and I took the back pack off and placed it on the ground. "Mads freeze, there is a guard right above you" I stood there, completely frozen again in a awkward position with my body in a what someone would call stress position. After ten minutes I prayed that the guard would turn ln his heels and walk away, and he did eventually. "Alright you're good to go, plant the explosives" I let out a quiet sigh and unzipped the backpack, pulled about 5kg's out of it and set it up in a square on the lower part of the wall. I turned on the little beacon that was on one of the C4 charges, that would receive the detonation signal when I pressed the detonator. It wasn't necessary to arm all of the charges with a beacon because if one goes off, so does the others. Once that was done I tried to make sure that no-one would be able to see the back pack and explosives. "Nøkk I am coming back to you" I began making my way back to Nøkk and repeated the whole process of crawl and freeze.
