After an arranged marriage to seal a business deal at 18, Evelyn lives an almost perfect life with Daniel Beckett, whom she grew to love. Two years after their marriage, on her 20th birthday, Daniel got shot by drunk police officers. Meanwhile, the...
Alice read the message that suddenly popped up on her phone screen and scrolled through. Her gaze widened in bewilderment after reading. The message was from Roman. She jolted up from the bed at once, brushing her fingers through her rough, black hair.
“What’s it?” Hazel asked, noticing her sudden movement.
“Is everything alright? Where are you going?” Blue raised. They were having a conversation and only Alice was absent minded.
She faked a smile at once, hurrying to the wall mirror. “I’ll be right back!”
The others turned to each other in amazement. Alice was the crazy one among them. She grabbed her phone and threw it into a small sliver purse. “Bye girls!” She said in excitement before hurrying out.
“I just hope she’s alright.” Hazel nodded her head in disappointment. Wondering if that was also because of Adam.
Immediately Alice got outside, she stopped a taxi. The vehicle took off on the quiet road, and she held up her phone to reply to Roman’s message.
“I’ll be there in a minute.” Alice sent the message and tapped the driver on his shoulder. “Can you go a little faster?”
The elderly man nodded in reply, increasing its speed.
Getting to the club, Alice pushed through the front door and walked in. It wasn’t so dim as she remembered, and the glittering disco light was off and stagnant. Noticing the place, Alice paused to a set of gangs having a discussion. Their deep guttural laugh died once she waked in and their eyes stopped at hers in a glare. Someone walked up to her, and she recognized him as the guard from before.
“Why are you?..”
“Where Roman?” She asked before he could complete the question.
Without replying, he walked through the passage, and Alice followed. The hefty men just watched till she left. They were wondering who she was, dressed in a simple, knee-length, black and white, polka dot doll dress and white flip-flop. Alice didn’t realize until just now. But... Who cares? She followed the guard until he stopped by the entrance of another room. It was dark, so she couldn’t see clearly. But she knew that there was an enormous bed in the room. And beside it stood a brown lathered club chair Roman sat in.
Alice frowned, trying to figure out if it was Roman or someone else sitting in the room. The air was thick with smoke, but she took in a breath. Roman looked so different from how he was outside the club.
The bodyguard disappeared behind the black swinging door, and they heard the uneven flap of his footsteps as he descended away into the main room.
Alice raised her eyes towards the direction of a Grey smoke, floating in the room's darkness. As if he was a stranger, she darted her eyes back and forth before closing the door behind, taking a step closer.
“Who is she?” Alice asked breathlessly.
“You’re already here so calm down, okay?” Roman stoop up, walking to where she stood. Alice could get a slim view of his structured face from the scorch of sunlight that seeped in. Roman rolled his eyes, pressing his lips against a pipe of weed on his right hand, sucking on it. He held on to the smoke before letting it out. Bringing out his phone from his side pocket with his left hand, Roman patiently scrolled through his gallery and showed her a picture. It was of Adam, in front of Hazel’s house, with Hazel’s mum hugging.
“What? He’s dating her?” Alice's eyebrows met in unison as she snapped. She snatched the phone from him to be sure that it was really Mrs. Beckett. Alice zoomed in the photograph and studied it with delicate eyes.
“Maybe he just visited her. How sure are you? Are they in a relationship because I don’t understand?”
“Do you think I come up with assumptions?” Roman sighed, nodding his head in negativity. “It also confused me at first, but Adam clarified he has feelings for her.” His voice was relatively deep and a little hoarse. Alice could see the sincerity in his eyes, and she thought about it again.
In the puzzlement, she held his phone dashing out of the room when Roman grabbed her arm.
“Where are you going with my phone? Do you want to implicate me?”
“Hazel should know, right? She should know if her mother is dating my boyfriend.”
“You’re truly dumb, Alice. I didn’t come over because this was the only place we could ever get privacy without being suspected, and you’re going to show Hazel?”
“Oh!” she stammered, handling him back his phone. “I’m sorry.”
Roman grabbed hold of his phone at once. “What about my payment?”
“I’ve paid you already, long ago.” Alice pointed out. “Didn’t you get the $100,000 alert?”
Roman sighed, sucking on his pipe. He cracked his mouth and a cloud of smoke escaped from his symmetrical, full lips, giving her a bitch face. “That was what you agreed on paying... What about what I agreed on receiving?”
“But I told you no! I...I don’t understand. What do you want from me, Roman?!” she stammered.
“The sex.” He threatened.
“I won’t do such a thing with you, coward!" Alice cursed under her breath and her heartbeat raced. Heating down to her stomach.
Roman took a step closer, till there was no space between them. With a dagger look, he placed his phone back into his pocket and focused on her black-inked, delicate eyes. “If you refuse me again, I will expose how you secretly spy on Adam, tracking him down, and how you bribed me. I haven’t spent a penny.”
“What about you? Don’t you sell drugs?” She gritted her teeth with hate for him.
“Well, tell that to the world because my friend knows and they’re fine with it. Let’s say my secret is not a secret anymore.” Roman nodded his head listlessly in a suppressed laugh. And once it stopped, he demanded. “Go to the bed.”
Without a word, Alice dragged herself to the king-sized bed, sitting on it. When she sat on the bed, she felt Roman’s eyes on her more intently. She gave him a dirty glare and scrunched her face in annoyance.
“I’ll make it snappy, don’t worry.”
His words soar through her, gluing her to the spot, freezing her. Even though her eyes and heart were boiling in anger. It surprised her to find tears dripping from her eyes.
Amidst a fulfilled feeling, Roman’s lips curved in a malicious grin, knowing he would ride her all night.
