The Wallin's New York penthouse was decked in the right shade of pale cerulean and white, looking like a winter wonderland sans the snow. Cocktail tables adorned the floor, with hydrangeas as centre pieces. Champagne was being served by waiters to A-list guests and old money adults dressed in silk and satin.

In short, Rose had lived up to her promises. Maybe she had a career in party planning. I almost felt inadequate in my white satin dress. But the added touch of sheer gloves thanks to Viv, made me feel like a gorgeous saint in white armour.

But one of the highlights was how Rose and Viv had made Kat overcome her urge to wear long sleeves. She was dressed in a strapless glittery silver corset dress. Katrina looked striking against the guests that had been commanded by the invite to wear only whites and muted blues.

I part with the birthday girl when I spot a familiar red head dressed in a blue floral print tux.

"Scott, hi, it's been awhile. How are you? Where's Dean?"

"I'm good Camille. I think Dean meant to sit this party out. He doesn't want to make appearances with this crowd again."

Right, should've known. The whole reason he'd practically abandoned his family, was to avoid all this glamour and the crap under it.

I nod, "Of course. What have you been up to?"

"This and that, mostly boring Thornton things and interning for my father. He's keeping me very close, now that Dean's resurfaced from his hole."

"You mean the kidnap didn't affect him but Dean's appearance did?"

"Oh the kidnap did something. That something was finally being able to go against Belinda. He no longer has a filter if you've seen any of his interviews lately."

"I see." I didn't have words. "Will you be saving the company, or leaving before it tanks?"

"I haven't decided yet actually. Still too early to say what my old man will do. What are you up to?"

"Same old. Medfield is even more boring than Thornton. The most drama there is the occasional fist fight between 2 stoners who stole each other's weed stash."

"Really? And here I thought you led the most exciting life?"

I grin, "Who's to say I'm not Scott?"

"Either way, I hope your sticking to your promise."

Just don't let anyone get hurt.

I give him a tight smile. "Of course. It's a promise I intend to keep, to the best of my ability, till the end of my time." Despite the mocking tone, I meant every word.

"I know you will."

A voice interrupts him, "Cam, the cake." I give Rose a nod.

"By the way, I meant to thank you. For bringing Dean from whatever hole he was in. It may have disrupted everything, but at least I've got him back alive. So thank you."
