Marriage.
They say it's one of the most difficult things you can do in life. A large commitment many find out they aren't cut out for. A challenge not for the faint of heart. It could make or break you. Ruin a relationship, a life, lives. Without having it thought out or with someone you deeply and truly loved, it could be disastrous. It could leave everything around you to crumble in pieces.
I actually have no idea if those are real sayings, but Nat had been saying things like that a lot.
I believed it to be sweet. She cares for Lena and I. She doesn't want to see either of us hurt. She wants us to be happy. We jumped into this marriage thing with only so much as a drunk thought.
But I love Lena. I always have. We bonded almost instantly. Getting her to laugh within only moments of knowing each other, I would never doubt we had a special bond.
Not that I thought we'd end up married.
No.
Causing chaos and happy accidents and wonderful mishaps we would tell for decades, yes.
It's clear Nat hadn't thought this would happen either.
She was hesitant to introduce us. She was nervous about it for some reason, though she would deny it when I asked.
Took months of convincing for her to bring me to a family dinner. I was her best friend, I wanted to know the people that helped 'raise' her. I care about Nat and wanted to know the other people she cared for.
She couldn't say no to me forever.
One fateful Wednesday evening, she broke and invited me to their weekly family dinner.
I was ecstatic.
She was not.
But it all went very smoothly; her family became like a second one to my own and the rest is history.
Well, that's not actually true.
Now her family is my family.
I have been married to her sister for a few months now.
Not that that was easy to tell her parents.
The emotions truly were a mixed bag.
Most people thought you were joking at first- not that you can blame them; this is definitely a prank you would pull.
However, your impromptu wedding rings you'd show them, and the marriage certificate you eventually had to pull out, would convince them it was all real.
Yelena was your best friend. Is your best friend. Being married to her is like this extra added bonus. Everyone should marry their best friend. You're already practically married; why not make it real?
While you've been in your newlywed bubble of gross happiness, the story has not been the same for those around you.
Though they would certainly act otherwise with you around, this marriage isn't something they can get use to.
If you knew about this, you would tell them to get the fuck over it. You were both happy and if they couldn't be happy for you, then they could fuck off.
However, they knew that would be your reaction so they played pretend.
You'd always been a little hard headed that way. Your whimsical self liked to believe life was full of wonder; one adventure after the next. This was your next adventure, so you didn't see any reason for it to upset anyone.
