Prompt: Kate's your best friend, though your feelings for her go far beyond friendship

Little bit of angst with a bunch of fluff

"Kate, you know I don't really have an interest in this sort of thing."

"Well, you do today. Besides, you know I could use a wingwoman. Please don't deprive your best friend of this opportunity."

You give her a blank stare. Cause that hurt.

"Fine. We can get ice cream before."

"Deal." You continue to sit there as she tortures you with the application of what she calls 'the basic necessities of make up.'

"Annnnd.. perfect. Damn. I am gooooood."

You roll your eyes.

"See! That eye roll really popped because of the eyeliner I used. You're welcome."

"I didn't ask for this."

"Maybe not in so many words, but..." and it's that dorky grin that gets your own smile going. ".. you love me. And you know you'll have fun!" Those words practically have you choking on air, though you try to hide it as best as you can.

Not much to your luck, she doesn't even notice.

"Now, come on. We're going to be late!"

You rolled your eyes again, but the smile stayed on your face.

"But do you think he'll like it?"

"Kate. He'd be a bloody fool not to fall head over heels for you, whether you're wearing that dress or a clown costume or sweatpants. Though, please, don't ever wear a clown costume." You didn't want to push her into the arms of someone else, but if she doesn't want you, you can't change that. And all you want is for her to be happy. You can't imagine this Brad guy actually making her happy, but what do you know?

She scoffs, "that's a promise on the clown costume. But, please. You're my best friend. You're suppose to say that."

"No. If you were about to make a damn fool of yourself, I would tell you. But you, Kate, are anything but a fool. You are the sun. He should give you the world."

"Wow. I didn't know you had it in you to be so sappy, y/n/n." She teases lightly, though you'd say you were going crazy because you're sure you heard her voice waver.

"Well, you make it easy. You're incredible. And, as your best friend, I am here to remind you of that endlessly." You lightly nudge her, trying to ease the tension you're sure only you were feeling.

She lets out a shaky breath just as you hear a car horn honking.

"Okay, seriously? This guy can't even come to the door for you? What kind of ass wagon-" Because, seriously?

She laughs, "we're just running late." Yeah, sure.

With that, she kisses your cheek then dashes out the door.

"Great. Another night of take out and Disney+ alone. Lucky me," you mumble, already flipping to the app before searching for something decent to eat.
