CYPRIAN POV“ She didn’t tell you did she? We kissed and made up.
Before the principal.” Zero yelled.
“ Is that true?!” I asked Dexter as soon as he sat down.
“ Yeah, life sucks.”
“ What does that mean for you?” I asked.
“ I dunno. Quit talking about this Cyprian, okay?” he snapped.
I went silent. He had changed. He was always snapping now.
Something was bothering Dexter.
“ The Drug Awareness Party is happening next week. You should really come. I’ll find you a partner.” I said,
“ Who would want to go out with someone like me?” he asked.
“ Someone. I promise I’ll find someone for you okay?”
He nodded and looked away.
There was awkward silence afterwards. The bell then rang and it was break time. We all walked out of the class, into the school cafeteria.
Dexter was quiet all the way. He didn’t laugh or talk.
As we stood in line, waiting for our chance to dish up, I saw the little girl whose name had left my memory.
She walked alone, and sat down on one of the tables at the back. I decided to speak with her.
After Dexter and I were done dishing up our food, we walked over to where the little girl sat.
“ Hi,” I said as we stood before her.
“ Hi,” she said in her little voice.
“ Have you heard about the Drug Awareness Party?”
She nodded. “ Yes,”“ Do you have a partner? For the party?”
“ No, what about you?”
“ I do but my friend here doesn’t. Will it be okay if you go out with him?” I said with a smile.
She looked at Dexter and then at me.
“ You don’t have to say yes,” Dexter said in a low voice.
“ Okay. I…yes,” she said unsurely.
“ I will go with him.”
“ Really?!” I asked in excitement. She nodded.
“ My name’s Dexter by the way,” Dexter struggled to speak.
“ I am Nova,” she concluded.
