The next day I woke up early. To find Alice and Mary fast asleep. Lily was in the hospital wing and I wanted to visit her before classes began. I got ready quickly and rushed down the stairs to find Sirius staring pensively out the window. He was wearing his staple: tight fitting black jeans, V-neck T Shirt and, today, a well worn leather jacket.
The weather was becoming miserable but then again, it was midway through October.
He turned to look at me and there was a darkness playing on his features.
But it quickly left his face when he saw me. The smolder was back and to be frank, it was positively unnerving.
"Yves." He said, his voice rougher than usual.
"You're up early." I said for want of anything else.
"Yeah, I thought I'd catch you." Did he get up early for me? No. Not Sirius.
I continued walking toward the portrait hole. I hadn't slept well, my fitful dreams occupied by Sirius.
"Where are you going?" he asked following.
"To Lily." Keep it simple and cordial Yves.
"Can I come with you." I turned to look at him. "Uh, Pron, uh, James is there already. I want to see if he's alright."
"Yeah, I suppose." I said.
I walked a little way in front of him for a while but his legs were much longer than mine so eventually, he fell in pace beside me.
"So... do you have any plans for Hogsmeade this year?" The girls kept on telling me that it was the social event of the year as Hogwarts didn't really have any school dances.
"No, not really. I thought I'd go with the girls if they didn't have dates. I don't really know my way around..."
"I could show you around." He said, his voice unnaturally light.
"Uh, thanks for the offer." I said not wanting to decline outright.
"Great." He said taking that as a yes. Shit.
We walked in silence but I just couldn't think of a way to tell him I didn't want to go with him. He was bouncing next to me, obviously happy. It was actually a great thing to see. He was so often covered in darkness, to see him outwardly happy... I had to be stronger than this! I opened the door to the infirmary quietly so we didn't wake up any of the many injured students.
"I mean, I could go with you. But I don't know about the girls..." Said a whisper inside the infirmary.
"I'll tag along then." Said another. Sirius immediately held out his arm to stop me, putting a finger to his lips to tell me to keep quiet.
"No!" the first voice said too quickly. It was definitely Lily. "I'm sure they won't mind if I spend some time with you there."
