Sirius

I stared at the now closed hatch, my arms still outstretched, for the shortest moment before I slammed my body into the heavy wood. Pain radiated through my shoulder and down myarm. It hung limply at my side but I couldn't feel it. It felt as though I was outside of my body, watching like someone else was preforming the actions of my body.

"Alohomora", the door swung open.

"Yves!" I screamed but I knew she was gone. I had heard the crack. Voldemort had her and I had no idea where they were. I could not help it, I ran from room to room, eventually out into the open. The clouds had pulled over, the sky darker than it should have been. I felt the sweat trickle down my back and my body start to shiver, the hopelessness of the situation washing over me. I hadn't even seen him but I had felt his power crackle through the air like a living thing. However, I had seen her face, the way she had looked down at me before she kicked the door closed... And now he had her. My brain was struggling to compute exactly what that meant but my body seemed to react before my brain did.

I was running back into the Shrieking Shack and dropped through the hatch.

Avery and Mulciber were lying haphazardly on the ground; the stretchers I had conjured had disappeared in the panic of trying to get to Yves. I hesitated for a moment unsure whether to bother taking them with, this was, after all, their damn fault. If Yves hadn't insisted on taking them, she wouldn't have... I cursed under my breath, conjured more stretchers, and began to float them down the pathway. I had been down here so many times I could navigate it in the dark without even thinking. I needed to get to Dumbledore; he would be able to help. I fixed my mind on the task at hand but I felt an unfamiliar feeling in my chest, something tight and uncomfortable seemed to be growing inside me. Suddenly my body lurched and I involuntarily bent double while my stomach emptied itself onto the ground. Eventually it stopped and I continued on my way, struggling to keep my breathing even, my stomach roiling uncomfortably.

Out of the tunnel, I ran in the darkness towards the castle and up the stone steps, my breathing laboured. Inside the door, I was vaguely aware that there were people around me.

"Sirius?" I heard a voice say but I couldn't stop. I had to get to Dumbledore but there was a hand on my arm pulling me back, stopping me from going any further. I turned to see Snape, his face furious. My immediate reaction was to drop Avery and Mulciber and turn my wand on him. I knew now that they were Death Eaters and my suspicions about Snape had only intensified. Perhaps he wasn't a Death Eater yet, but there was the possibility of it happening. But before I could so much as think of a hex, I heard another voice. Lily. I turned to look at her kind face. Her eyes were huge and she was looking at me as if she had seen boggart.

"Sirius!" She said with urgency, "What happened to you? What happened to your arm?"

I shot a look at Snape; his face had rearranged himself into that insolent smirk I could not stand.

"I think the more pertinent question is why on earth does he smell like that?" He said slickly.

Fuck I hated him. My wand was level with his face but I lowered it. I didn't have time for this. Nothing mattered. I had to get her back.

I turned and began running, aware that Lily was calling after me. I rounded the corner and ran square into Professor McGonagall.
