Chapter Two (NEW)

"Did you say Emily Lake?" Jim asked suddenly, looking at Bones curiously.

"Yes why?" Bones responded concerned, no good could come of Jim knowing his girlfriend.

"Doctor Emily Lake?" Jim asked a frown now on his face.

"Yes why?" Bones asked again starting to get irritated.

"She's an Astrophysicist?" Jim responded, Lex now glancing between the 2 men, sharing Bones' increasing unease.

"Yes, why do you know this?" Bones barked out aggravation colouring every word.

"Oh Jim, you didn't..." Lex groaned eyes widening in horror a hand flying to her face to cover her mouth.

"What?" Jim asked face snapping to hers in alarm.

"Please tell me she's not one of your many conquests" Bones ground out face turning ashen as he did so.

"No of course not..." Jim retorted at once with a scowl, face softening as he thought "I mean I don't think..." looking up he spied the thunderous look on Bones face and decided now was not the time to tease him "No she's not, I promise"

"Then how do you know her?" Bones asked sagging with relief but still concerned as the colour returned to his face.

"She's been assigned to the enterprise" Jim shrugged.

"What!" Bones started, shocked at the news.

"What's the matter? Surely this is good news for you" Lex asked frowning at Bones, though relieved this hadn't gone the way she thought it might of.

"Well yes I suppose it is" he grumbled falling quiet and staring at his half full glass in front of him in deep thought.

"Trouble in paradise already?" Jim quipped though sharing a significant look with Lex who sighed.

"No" he responded at once "it's just.... we've not been seeing each other that long, that might be slightly faster than I'm comfortable with"

Lex rolled her eyes "Perhaps she doesn't want to break up?" she explained faintly amused by the man's cluelessness.

"Why would be break up?" Bones face snapped up to hers confusion written all over his face

"Five-year mission?" Lex explained shocked this hadn't occurred to him when he continued to gaze at her confused "You just expected her to what? Wait for you?" she concluded with a shake of her head.

"No... well... I hadn't given it much thought" Bones admitted now feeling very foolish.

"Clearly" Jim snarked exasperatedly.

"I need to go" Bones declared downing the rest of his drink and standing suddenly "I need to talk to Emily"

Lex nodded "Yes I think you better had" and waved him off with a serene "See you later boss!" that barely earned a scowl in response.

"Ah that's a shame" Jim commented with a sigh as Bones departed disappearing into the throng of the now overly crowded bar.

"What is?" Lex responded frowning slightly at the strange expression on his face.

"That he has a girlfriend" Jim responded, eyes locking with hers pointedly.

Lex was taken aback momentarily but then the familiar sinking feeling told her she knew where he was going with this, it not having been the first time he'd suggested it, but she spied an opportunity to deflect.

A wicked grin crossing her face she leaned forward a suggestive lilt to her voice "You got something you want to get off your chest there Jim?"

"What?... NO!" Jim frowned momentarily before grasping her meaning, responding loudly and definitively.
