"Is that tight enough?" Lex enquired over her sister's shoulder.
Nodding, Ida gave an experimental tug on her dress "Yep doesn't appear to be going anywhere"
Ida's dress was thankfully not wildly complicated, but Lex nonetheless very carefully laced her into it and tied it securely. Making sure to turn the ribbon so it sat nicely and redoing the bow twice to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible.
Finally, when Lex was happy with her work she stepped back, her hand already covering her mouth as she tried to keep her emotions in check "You're ready"
Ida shot Lex a slightly panicked look, unwilling to turn towards the mirror her nerves getting the better of her.
Lex shook her head, smiling reassuringly, her eyes starting to get a little misty "You look beautiful, Evan is not going to know what hit him"
Ida smiled gratefully, taking a deep breath and turning to look at the mirror "Wow "was all she said, gaping at her appearance.
Lex moved to stand next to her sister in the mirror, wrapping an arm around her waist she pulled her into her side and dropped a slightly shaky kiss on her temple "You look just like Mum" she whispered. Ida smiled at her through the mirror, for once not feeling sad at the comparison but instead feeling like a part of her mum was with her today.
A knock on the door broke them both from their thoughts, crossing the room Lex opened the door a crack and peered through it.
"Hello Sweetheart" Bones smiled at her.
"What are you doing here?" Lex smirked at him, he was so impatient, determined to get a look at her dress, even if it was only 10 minutes until the ceremony.
"I volunteered to bring this to Ida, Evan had to be restrained from delivering it personally" he chuckled, holding up a small gift-wrapped package.
"No way he was getting past me" Lex smirked, her soon to be brother in law had a lot tp learn.
"I don't doubt it, which is why I volunteered" Bones responded with a grin.
Lex chuckled as Bones attempted to peer around the door, none to discreetly "Any particular reason it had to be you?" She asked wedging herself firmly behind the door.
"Just being helpful" He shrugged with a sly smile. Lex pursed her lips in response not believing him for a second.
Ensuring she was still hidden by the door, she opened it a fraction wider and held her hand out for the present, but Bones just took a step back.
"Oh no I think you should come out and get it" he grinned, putting his arms and the present behind his back.
Lex rolled her eyes but was saved from having to engage any further in this battle of wills, by the arrival of Joanna "I'll take that thank you"
Snatching the present from her father's hands, startling him, she squeezed herself through the crack in the door "Go back to your seat" she ordered and shut the door on his shocked face.
Returning to the rest of the wedding guests, Bones walked down the aisle until he found Jim dropping down into the seat next to him.
Jim looked up at his irritable expression and laughed "Didn't let you in did she?"
"No, she's a stubborn woman" he grumbled.
Jim grinned "Match made in heaven then or maybe hell"
Bones shifted uncomfortably on the pew adjusting his tie for the hundredth time and pulling at the collar of his shirt, he found it suffocating with the top button done up.
