"So Ladies, what are we drinking?" Jim grinned cockily at the two young ladies perched on the bar stools to his right as he leant on the bar.
The one nearest to him, a pretty brunette, turned from her friend eyeing him up and down, assessing him as a prospect for the evening unashamedly.
The other, a shapely blonde, peered around her friend, eyes betraying more appreciation for his looks than the former, Jim shooting her a wink that made her blush when realising she'd been caught.
The bartender cleared his throat awaiting Jim's order, flashing him a quick smile Jim held up a single finger and turned back to the ladies for an answer.
The brunette pursed her lips and shook her head, her inspection of him complete "We've already got drinks, thanks"
Turning away from him she once again engaged her friend in conversation, audibly sighing when Jim spoke once more "Sure you don't to know anything about me before you reject me?"
The brunette flipped her long hair over her shoulder with an accompanying withering look "We're good, thanks" she muttered, turning her back resolutely to him.
Lex chuckled from across the bar, having spotted Jim almost the second she entered the crowded bar, unsurprised to see her friend already occupied in his favourite pastime though apparently without a wingman tonight. Not that Bones had ever served as a very effective wingman, demonstrating a complete lack of patience with the process, but nonetheless it seemed strange to see Jim flying solo in their old haunt. Despite the two years apart she was gratified and somewhat disturbed to find nothing had really changed. Jim might now be a Captain, but he was still Jim, still hitting on pretty young things in their favourite bar with varying degrees of success.
"You might have more luck if you were wearing your Captain's uniform" she informed him with an appraising look at tonight's chosen wardrobe of dark jeans, navy t shirt and his trademark black leather jacket, having squeezed through the crowd to appear at his elbow.
Jim turned at once on hearing a familiar voice, a genuine smile of welcome splitting his face "Lex! What are you doing back on Earth?" Pulling her into his arms Lex chuckled into his shoulder, only too happy to return his tight embrace.
"You're a Captain?"
Lex looked over Jim's shoulder to see the Brunette had now turned away from her friend and was eyeing Jim with much more enthusiasm than she had been previously.
Lex pulled back from Jim tipping him a wink and turning him back towards the ladies in question.
"This fine specimen you see before you ladies, is Captain James T Kirk" Lex announced with a genuine smile, as shocked as she was to have heard that Jim had unexpectedly been advanced to Captain two years ago, she was also ridiculously proud of her friend.
"You're Captain Kirk?" The Blonde whispered eyeing her friend reproachfully over her earlier cold demeaner.
It wasn't the first time they'd encountered people in this very bar trolling for Starfleet personnel, this was the nearest bar to the academy and therefore a very popular hangout for the uniformed and those that liked a man or woman in uniform.
The brunette to her credit didn't allow it to derail her as she leaned back against the bar in a seductive manner her eyelids fluttering in his direction "So about that drink..."
Jim cut her off with a chuckle and a dismissive wave of his hand "Another time" grabbing Lex's arm he pulled her into the crowd, making his way towards the quieter back area to their favourite booth which was surprisingly still unoccupied for a Friday night in San Francisco.
