Chapter 19

Once we get Eddie's food and drinks we start the drive back to Reefer Rick's house. "Not to be a whimp but can I maybe stay in the car for this visit because this is going to totally and royally suck." Robin says from the passenger seat. "It'll be fine." Nancy says from the driver's seat. "I just can't stand to see those doll eyes of Eddie's break again I really, really can't." Robin says. "At least he can drink himself into feeling better." Steve says as he holds up the six pack of beer Eddie wanted us to get for him. "That's what my mom does." Max says and I sigh.

"Why don't we just give it a trial run. Hey Eddie uh, good news first this time. We got you some Dustin approved junk food and that six pack you requested. Oh yeah and we found Vecna only the bad news is he's in that other, darker, much scarier dimension that we told you about and the gates closed so we have no way of getting to him, like he's entirely shut off to us so basically you're screwed and no, no, no, I know that you're already screwed but now you're like doubly, triply, screwed." Robin rambles on. "Woah, wait, wait, wait maybe we don't put it like that." Lucas suggests. "We're one step closer to finding Vecna. That's what we say, that's what's important." Corey says and I nod in agreement.

"See Robin, the positive spin can make all the difference." Steve says as he and Dustin eat a can of Pringles. Robin sarcastically hums in response I sigh. "Oh shit." Nancy says and I look out the front windshield to see police cars surrounding Reefer Rick's house. "Shit." I curse under my breath.

Nancy parks the car and we all quickly get out. "Come on, this way." I say seeing an opening behind a news van so we can see what's happening. We listen as police chief Powell tells reporters that there has been another death and he then reveals that Eddie is suspect number one. "Oh man. This is not good, this is really not good." Steve says from behind me.

"Dustin can you hear me? Sinclair? Hargrove? Anybody!?" Eddie asks through the walkie-talkie. "Eddie, holy shit are you okay?" I ask him as I take Dustin's walkie-talkie. "Nah Bell, pretty goddamn far from okay." Eddie says and I sigh. "Where are you?" I ask him. "Skull Rock uh, do you know it?" He asks and I nod. "Yeah that's out by Cornwallis and-" I begin before Steve cuts in. "Garrett, yeah I know it." Steve says and walks back to the Wheeler's car. "Hold tight Eddie, we're coming." I say to him and I toss Dustin back his walkie-talkie. He catches it and we run to the car.

Steve gets in the driver's seat and I quickly get in the passenger seat. Steve quickly drives us out to Skull Rock and we stop about a mile out from the actual location. We cover the car with leaves and branches so nobody can see it and we then start the walk to Skull Rock.

"Dude I'm telling you, your taking us the wrong way." Steve complains as Dustin looks at his map and compass. "It's north, I'm positive, I checked the map." Dustin says as we continue to walk. "You do realize that Skull Rock is like a super popular make out spot right?" Steve asks Dustin. "Yeah, so?" Dustin asks. "Yeah well it wasn't popular until I made it popular alright. I practically invented it. We're heading in the wrong direction." Steve says as he breaks away from Dustin and starts walking in a different direction. Dustin looks at me and I shrug and start following Steve. "Steve! Where are you going?" Dustin asks Steve. "Stop winning, let's go." Steve says as he waves Dustin in the direction he is going. "Steeeeve!" Dustin complains. "Come on, trust me." Steve says and I laugh.

"Hey you okay?" I ask Steve surprised by his sudden silence. "Just thinking." He says and I look at him, waiting for him to continue. "About Vecna's victims. I mean it's wierd. Everyone Vecna targets has something in their life some-something that's-" He says trying to find the right word. "Hurting them, haunting them." I say and he nods.

"Bells I didn't really know Patrick, or Fred, or Chrissy, but I did know you and I'm sorry I wasn't there." Steve says and I sigh. "It's not your fault." I say to him to try and avoid this topic. "No." He says with a shake of his head. "I disappeared." I say to try and make him stop. "No, no, you didn't I just didn't look hard enough." He says as he stops walking to look at me. "But I see you now. I see you Bells." He says and I look down. "Bella I'm so, so sorry I wasn't there for you but I promise I will be in the future." He says and I nod.

"Bella I-" Steve begins before Dustin cuts us off. "Foud it!" Dustin yells and Steve closes his eyes and sighs. I turn around and walk to Dustin. "It doesn't make sense." Dustin says. "Even with it staring you right in the face you just can't admit that your wrong you little butt head." Steve says and roll my eyes. I turn around as I hear someone land behind me. "I concur. You, Dustin Henderson, are a total butt head." Eddie says and I smile.

"Jesus, we thought you were a goner." I say as I walk up to him and wrap him in a hug. "Yeah me too Bell, me too." He says as he wraps his arms around me. "Okay that's enough." Steve says as he comes over to Eddie and I. I roll my eyes and let go of Eddie. "Calm down Harrington, Bella's not my type." Eddie say and I smirk. "I'm everyone's type Munson." I say and he chuckles and mumbles something under his breath.
