Chapter 24

Nancy slowly opens the door to her house and we all slowly follow in after her. "Might be time to get a maid Wheeler." Eddie says sarcastically. "Come on, I don't want to stay here longer than we have to." Nancy says clearly upset at the state of her corrupted house in the upside down. We all follow her upstairs and into her room.

Nancy opens her closet and gets down a shoe box. She sits it on her desk and opens it to reveal a pair of high heels. "Thise aren't guns." Eddie says stating the obvious. "Well I mean these heels are a bit pointy but I was hoping for something along the lines of a deadly projectile." Robin says to Nancy.

"I-I don't understand." Nancy says confused. "Maybe you left them somewhere else." Eddie suggests. "There's a six year old in the house I know where I keep my guns." Nancy snaps at him. "And also I threw these away years ago." Nancy says. Nancy looks beside the shoe box and picks up some flash cards and looks through them. "I get that grades are important to you but perhaps studying can wait until we get out of here." Robin says as we watch Nancy look through the cards. "These are from Sophomore chemistry." Nancy says and I tilt my head to the side in confusion.

"And this-this wallpaper, this is- this is old wallpaper." Nancy says as she points at the pink and white striped wallpaper. "And this mirror, this went to a yard sale." She says as she goes to her white vanity. "And- you." Nancy says as she picks up a Pluto stuffed animal. "I-I gave you to cousin Johanna two years ago." Nancy says to the stuffed animal as if it were listening. Nancy then looks at her nite stand and picks up a diary off of it. She opens it and flips through the pages. She opens her mouth in shock and shakes her head.

"What is it?" I ask her. "Nancy?" Corey questions. "Nancy you're freaking us out." Robin says from beside Corey. "I think the reason my guns aren't here is because they don't exist yet." Nancy says and Eddie, Corey, Robin, and I all share a confused look with one another. "They don't exist?" Eddie asks trying to remain calm. "This diary should be full of entries, it's not. The last entry is November 6, 1983. The day Will went missing. The day the gate opened." Nancy says and my eyes widen realizing what she's thinking. "You think we're in the past?" I ask in shock. We all look at her and she nods.

"Dustin!" We hear the muffled voice of Steve call out from downstairs. We all turn and run out of Nancy's room and downstairs. We quickly run into the kitchen to see Steve looking around calling out Dustin's name.

"Maybe he really does have rabes." Robin suggests and I lightly hit her shoulder. "Steve what are you doing?" I ask him. Steve turns around to face us and shines his flashlight in our eyes. "He's here, Henderson, that little shit he's here. He's like in the walls or something just listen." Steve says and he lowers the flashlight and points to his ear. We all remain quiet and listen for Dustin but all we hear is silence. Steve goes back to calling out Dustin's name and I continue to try and listen for Dustin's familiar voice. I hear his muffled voice and my eyes widen in shock. "Holy shit." I say and Steve smiles at me.

We all split up and go to different parts of the house and start calling out Dustin's name. "Alright either this kid can't hear us or he's being a total dushe bag." Steve says from beside me. "Will found a way." Nancy says and we all turn to look at her. "What?" Robin asks confused. "Will he found a way to speak to Joyce through the lights." Nancy says as she goes to a lamp and trys to turn it on. "Try the switch." Corey says seeing Nancy is having no success with the lamp. Nancy nods and trys to turn on the light switch but no lights come on.

"It's not working." Nancy says in frustration as she continues to flip the light switch. I look up at the light fixture and see a sparkling glow coming from it. "Guys." I say to get everyone's attention. Everyone turns and looks at me waiting for an explanation. "Are you seeing this?" I ask them as I point at the light. "What the hell?" Steve asks as he comes up beside me and looks at the glow coming from the lights.

I walk towards the light fixture and slowly lift my hand to the sparkling glow coming from it. As my fingers enter the sparkling lights the lights glow brighter. I wave my hands around in the lights and the others join me. I take my hand away and Steve and I share a look. We all put our hands to the glowing light and watch as the lights burn brighter. "It tickles." Steve says from beside me. "It kinda feels good." Robin says in agreement. I pull my hand away as an idea sparks in my mind. "Does anyone know morse code?" I ask. "No." Everyone but Eddie responds. "Wait does SOS count?" Eddie asks as he looks at me. "Is that- is that good?" He asks as we all turn to look at him. "Yeah that's perfect." I say with a nod. Eddie nods and starts to blink out SOS in the lights. "It's working." I say with a smile.
