Chapter 5

"Have you talked to anyone else?" Dustin asks as we rush out of his room. "No, we can't go to Lucas' and Mike's -" I begin before Dustin cuts me off. "In California shit, shit, shit." Dustin curses as he walks to his front door.

"Dusty, where are you going?" Dustin's mom asks. "To see a friend." Dustin says as he opens his front door. "You heard the news. It's not safe." His mom says worriedly. "Good point, I'll be with Bella the whole time. Thanks, mom. I love you, bye." Dustin says as he closes the door and we run to our bikes.

"We need to get to Family Video now." Dustin says and I sigh. "Why?" I ask, annoyed. "Because I know Steve, Corey, and Robin are working today, and they can help us." Dustin says quickly. "Perfect." I say sarcastically under my breath.

We bike to the Family Video store and quickly get off our bikes. "Hey." Dustin says as he opens the front door to the store. "Bella,  thank God you're okay." Steve says in relief. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I ask, confused. "Someone died." Steve says as he points to the TV. "Yeah, believe me, we know." I say with a sigh.

"How many phones do you guys have?" Dustin asks. "Somebody was murdered." Corey says as she points at the TV. "How many phones do you have?" Dustin asks again, clearly annoyed. "Uh, two, why?" Steve asks confused. "Technically, three if you count Keith's in the back." Robin says. "Yeah, three works." I say with a nod to Max and Dustin.

"What are you doing?" Steve asks as Dustin takes off his backpack. Dustin slides his backpack across the counter and then slides over himself as Steve, Corey, and Robin protest. I roll my eyes and walk around the counter with Max.

"What are you doing, man?" Steve asks as Dustin sits down and types on the computer. "Setting up base of operations." Dustin replies casually. "Base of operations?" Corey asks as she picks up the tapes that Dustin knocked off the counter. "Stop, get off of that." Steve says to Dustin. "No, I need it." Dustin says as he continues to type on the computer. "Need it for what?" Steve asks, getting annoyed. "Looking up Eddie's friends' phone numbers." I say as I go to stand behind Dustin. "Oh Eddie, your new boyfriend, who you think is cooler than me because he plays guitar like you?" Steve asks and I glare at him. "Eddie is not my boyfriend, and I don't think he's cooler than you just because he plays guitar like me." I snap at Steve.

"Seriously guys, maybe on a Monday you can play around in here like todlers, but it's Saturday. It's our busiest day." Robin complains as she helps Corey put everything back on the counter. "Alright, Robin, I totally emphasize, but this can not wait until Monday." Dustin says as he writes down the list of Eddie's friends' numbers. "What cause calling all of Eddie's friends is an emergency?" Corey asks. "CORRECT!" Dustin yells at her as he continues to write down the list of numbers.

"Uh, do one of you want to strangle him, or do you want me to?" Steve asks Robin and Corey. "We can take turns." Corey says with a smile. "I agree." Robin says. "Can you two just fill them in while I do this." Dustin says to Max and me as he throws down the clipboard in frustration. "Fill us in on what?" Corey asks as she turns around to look at us. I roll my eyes and sigh. "You guys might want to sit down for this." I say to them. They share a worried look and do as I say, and Max and I fill them in on everything that's happened.
