Once upon a time, long, long ago...
"Father! Father! It's tea time!" A young girl called out to her father. She had been sitting at the table waiting for her father. It was a tradition to always have tea time at least once a day.
They had done it multiple times previous days but since father was offered the job to be the royal hatter for the royalties of Auradon he was always busy.
Yet, he made sure to always have time for his only child. He cherished her since the moment her mother left her at his doorstep, never to return for her.
He had been the only person she depended on. He was her best friend and they have been the most known father-daughter duo throughout the kingdom.
The Mad Hatter walked towards his eight year old daughter, a smile on his face, when he saw that she had laid out his favorite cakes and treats. She had also brought his favorite beat up tea time chair.
"Now my little hatter, how did you get this chair out here? It's much too large for you my dear." He spoke while picking her up and spinning her. Her giggles brought a smile to his face.
"I had a bit of help from Ben, he wanted to join our tea time like the others but his daddy called him back home." She spoke, giddy. Her smile beamed at her father with no worries in the world.
Hatter on the other hand was curious, why had Beast called his son early? He never had called him home before, especially when he knew that Terrance was watching him. He let the thoughts go when his daughter started to speak about what she learned at Auradon elementary.
Their tea time went on for two hours before Hatter checked his stopwatch and realized he had a crown fitting in one hour.
Although his daughter was a bit sad he had to go, he assured her he would be fine and that she could go visit Aunty Alice until he came to fetch her. She smiled and they began to put their tea time materials back into their small cottage.
As they were leaving to go to Alice's home they were stopped by the sound of guards.
Hatter pushed his daughter behind him softly. He was beginning to become anxious. His thoughts ran wild.
He knew he had not gone mad in months. He made sure he didn't mess up his contract so his daughter could have the best life she could possibly have.
"May I help you gentlemen?" He spoke to the guards. Nobody answered him. They remained quiet until they began to part, making a path for his royal majesty Beast and his wife Belle.
"Forgive me Terrance." Beast spoke solemnly towards the hatter. Terrance looked at him questionably until he saw guards coming towards him. When his eyes flashed back to the beast he knew what this was.
"No" He spoke gravely. He felt his daughter grip onto his leg, he could feel the fear rolling off of her. He looked down at her and saw the tears running down his face.
With that he had a realization.
The guards rushed at him to put cuffs on him but he picked up his daughter and ran.
He ran faster than anybody thought possible.
He could hear the guards running after him and knew he wouldn't out run them. He knew they would take him.
He thought the beast was his friend.
He thought he understood Terrance. He trusted the Beast and he broke the sacred bond.
He figured if he could not outrun the capture that he would have everyone see the king for what he really was. A monster.
He ran into the middle of town square and made sure everyone could see him. He heard the knights getting closer.
