When Maddie caught sight of it, she let out a small laugh.
"Guess we were always alike, even now." She smiled at him.
The moment was broken once more when Audrey walked over to the two. Making sure to pull Ben away from Maddie to wrap her arms around her.
From the movements and the smug smirk on the princess' face, Maddie connected the dots and knew they were a couple.
If it was anyone else, they would have said they look like a royal couple you would imagine in olden tales. But this was Maddie. She couldn't help but criticize the couple in her head.
She knew Ben would have eventually found a different person to crush on, to be in a relationship with.
She was just upset that they didn't have a chance. She was upset that they could never have the beginning of a happily ever after.
She turned away from them both, looking to the other VKs and Fairy Godmother.
She didn't remember the fairy much, only that she was kind to her. That she would compliment her outfits when she was a child. She remembered a whispered conversation with her and her father, something along the lines of Fairy Godmother being there to help Maddie with her magic.
"It is nice to see you once again, Madelyn." The voice snapped her out of her head.
Fairy Godmother smiled, a small, sad one, but a smile nevertheless. Flashes of making a sleeping potion for the young girl went through her head. The last moments of seeing the little girl torn from her father. Seeing the man she once thought of as a friend, going mad before jumping into the rabbit hole she created.
She did, once, go against the king's order and try to reach Wonderland through the original rabbit hole, but she couldn't get through. The rabbit hole had been boarded up. A small spell cast over it by the Blue Fairy.
The same fairy whose magic rivaled Fairy Godmothers. She knew there was no way of getting into Wonderland without the Queen of Hearts or King Beast knowing. So she left it. She had tried and failed.
Clearing her throat, she continued on with the rules she had set at Auradon prep.
"The doors of wisdom are never shut! But the library hours are from 8 o'clock to 11 o'clock. And as you may have heard, I have a little thing about curfews." He hands moving with every word she says.
Maddie and the rest of the isle children make a small, polite laugh. All feeling a little awkward.
Nothing more was said and with that Fairy Godmother walked away, the school band following her.
After a few seconds of silence Ben started welcoming and thoroughly introducing himself to the other kids.
"It is so, so, so good to finally meet you all." He started talking while moving to Jay.
Jay either not noticing or not caring about the hand being held out to him, punched Ben in the chest, the friendliest introduction he was going to give.
Ben smiled through the small pain he felt and continued on, shaking hands with Mal next. Who looked nothing more than bored out of her mind. Maddie may not have liked her much but she could understand why she wasn't showing much enthusiasm. Mal ripped her hand after Ben continued to shake it, widening her eyes a bit when he wouldn't let go. Ben, getting the hint, continued on.
"This is a momentous occasion, and one that I hope will go down in history- Is that chocolate?..."
Maddie glanced at Carlos and had just now noticed the chocolate all over his hand and face. She smiled and giggled a little at the boy. Said boy turned to her and flushed a little, thinking Maddie was making fun of him. She shook her head and grabbed a handkerchief that she had tucked into her pocket while leaning around Evie to give to the boy.
