For more than two thousand years, never once had Xiao find the need in getting to know the culture of the creatures he referred to as mortals. To him, it just seemed like a waist of time. Already busy with his duty as guardian of Liyue, the young Yaksha thought that that alone was enough
Even if his lack of socializing meant he would remain alone for eternity, Xiao preferred that instead of breaking his oath. Also, given what happened to him in the past, the black-haired boy didn't grant his trust to anyone

Even the people that looked after him at the Wangshu Inn were no exception to the rule...
The only thing the Yaksha did do, was occasionally thank the humans whenever they brought him food. Other than that, his cautious attitude towards things he didn't know or understand remained strong
At least...that was until he meet her
" Hey Xiao? Can I ask you something"
Turning his head away from the clear night sky, the young Yaksha's piercing eyes shifted to the little girl sitting beside him " What is it?" he spoke in his usual raspy voice
" When I'm older, what do you say me and you get together? As in married"
Having expected anything but such an absurd question, Xiao felt his heart nearly leap out of his chest " W-what is that for idiotic suggestion?"
Having never seen the boy without his stoic expression, you couldn't help but giggle at the sight ' Can he be any more adorable' you thought
" I'm pretty serious" you answered between chuckles " Have I ever told you something I'm not genuinely thinking about?"
Considering how straightforward and stubborn you were, Xiao knew better then anyone else that once this child's mind was set on something, it was pointless to argue. No matter his response, she would always get what her heart desired
For someone her age, this character trait was something the young Yaksha found partly intriguing yet annoying at the same time
" Well" the boy heaved out a deep slow breath before speaking " If this is truly what you desire, may I ask your motive behind this particular...request "
" Isn't it obvious?" the girl cocked her head to the side
Shaking his head, the smile that was already plastered on your face broadened " It's because I love you"
Love...That very term that humans used to display affection for people they wanted to held close...That kind of emotion was what you, a young mortal creature felt for someone like him?
" Tch, you don't know what you're talking about"
" Of course I do-"
" NO YOU DON'T!" the boy snapped " If you knew what it truly meant than you wouldn't waist it on someone like me"
" Someone...Like you?" you spoke in a whispery tone
" Exactly" Xiao turned his gaze at his hands that rested on his lap " I'm an adeptus, the one that you humans call ' conqueror of demons'. I've sworn to always look after Liyue and by such protecting you it's citizens."
"But..." he paused " Despite my promise, I've mostly been the one causing trouble for this place"
Watching his hands form into fists, a small aching feeling grew inside your body " No matter where or what I do, it seems I can never escape the karmic debt from following me"
" But you know you can't do anything about it..."
" While that is indeed correct, I can however make sure that it doesn't harm anyone else but me. Which is why I stay isolated from the rest of the world. Away from anything that lives. Whether it's good or evil it doesn't matter...As long as I can prevent them from falling into darkness, I'm fine with being alone"
Rising to his feet, the young Yaksha turned to face the girl " Which is why I want you to stop visiting me. I don't think I need to make myself anymore clear about why being around me is dangerous. "
Having said everything he wanted, Xiao walked passed the infant ready to go scout the area of Liyue like every night. Yet before being able to jump of the Wangshu Inn, he was held back by two arms wrapping strongly around his waist
Startled, the dark medium-lengt haired gazed down at his midsection to see the girl's frail and slim limps embracing him " W-what are you-"
" Do you think that I care about all of that?" you cut him off " Do you think that your story is enough for making me change my decision?"
Releasing your grip, you quickly strutted around the boy to stand right in front of him. Pecking up your head, Xiao felt a chill run down his spine the moment his golden irises stared at your face. The smile that had faltered minutes ago had once again returned. Only this time, it seemed to held much more sincerity
" No matter what you try to say to make me change my mind, I know that you're the only one I want to marry. "
" You idiot! Didn't you just-" he began only to be interrupted
" Oh I heard you just fine" you flashed him a blank stare before pivoting on your heels to face the view from the summit of the Wangshu Inn " The question is more...did you hear what you just said?"
Hearing no respons you snickered into your palm " Figured not"
" It's exactly because you want to carry all of that misfortune by yourself that I want to marry you. You may say that you don't care about us 'Mortals' but you still protect everyone by watching over Liyue and not caring about what that does to you"
Flabbergasted at you words, Xiao couldn't utter a single word. Despite having said all those things in hope to get you to stay away from him, you had twisted his words into something that sounded pure and meaningful
" Your...a strange one"
Chuckling, you glanced over you shoulder " I know" you grinned
Unable to control a particular emotion, the young boy allowed the corner of his lips to tug upwards for the first time " Alright..." he kneeled down to match your level " When you grow up and still wish for the same thing, I promise to stay by your side and protect you till you get sick of me"
" Does that mean you'll marry me?" you faced him with twinkeling eyes
Feeling his cheeks turn red, Xiao averted your intense gaze. He was well aware that you knew the answer yourself as his promise was basically a confirmation. Yet that didn't seem to satisfy you. It was obvious you wanted to hear a direct and clear answer
And so, with much needed effort, the boy spoke three words that send your heart ablaze
" Yes, I promise"

I don't play Genshin Impact yet...So forgive me if I made some mistakes considering his backstory. I just used some info from the internet
