The sirens blared throughout the whole city of Seattle due to currently ongoing 5 alarm fire quickly spreading from a shopping mall towards a local residential area. Firefighters from every area were called in to help control it but this one was difficult to read even for those with high rankings such as captain or battalion chief.

Each Station and their captains were give specific instructions by the battalion chiefs who were all helping with incident command. On smaller calls which only required 1 or maybe 2 stations, the captains would typically stay outside to command their team but anything from a 3 alarm fire they were in on the action. The majority of who were willing and ready to having not really been in a lot of action for some time.

Station 19 was called slightly later into the fire, they had reason to believe the shopping mall was empty but whilst the structure was still stable they sent 19 in to do a final sweep of the building. Temperatures and smoke levels were alarmingly high so they were harshly warned but nineteen are known as the best station in the city so the small group of battalion chiefs weren't worried.

"Okay nineteen you know the drill your oxygen tank metre goes under 5 minutes you get yourself out, we can't save victims if we are recovering a fallen firefighter. Stick with your partner and keep your radios on Chanel 2 listen for any updates on the structures stability. Keep me updated and don't ignore me when I ask for a check in and that includes you Gibson." Maya Bishop, station 19s captain informed her team with a serious and efficient tone.

"Yes captain" they all responded and set off towards the building.

"Miller and Gibson take the south exit, Montgomery and Hughes on the Main entrance, Herrera and I will be on the back exit." and with that they all set off.

It had been around 5 minutes and they had all made their way into the mall when they heard a sudden crash coming from the centre of the building "Okay nineteen you all heard that they structure is compromised all make your way to the nearest exit there are arrows on the ground so you won't get lost" the captain told her team and got replies from each team confirming their exit. Her and Herrera were almost there as well.

"Bishop why do I see your team exiting the building is your sweep done." Battalion chief Sullivan asked through the radios.

"Structural integrity of the building is compromised sir, move the perimeter back at least 10 metres" she replied when she caught site of her Lieutenant running towards the exit. "Copy that Bishop"

Maya made her way to Herrera was already out the building, so much for staying with your partner she thought, but bit her tongue like she always does. As she was leaving she heard the crash-banging above her head and her team yelling to move away quickly so she leaps forward, but not quickly enough. A large pillar fell a landed across the majority of Mayas body, luckily avoiding her head but likely injuring her spine and both arms. Injuries like this put firefighters out of their careers.

Bishop was fully conscious the whole time her team extracted her and moved her towards the aid car. "Nineteen I know this is your captain and all but we need you here, the medic team will take her to Grey Sloan you can visit her once your off shift." Instructed by someone of higher authority which didn't seem to bother the team much, only earned a few groans and her team walked off without a "goodbye" or a "you'll be okay".

The saddest part of this is that it didn't even surprise Maya. She had already stopped allowing herself to think her team cared about her or her well-being and is now just numb. She sometimes couldn't help but allow her mind to wonder onto made up senario's of things like 'what if this was Hughes and not me?' 'would they care more?' 'If they saw obvious signs of struggling from Herrera would they take action?' And often she concluded that they would.
