7. By The Seashore

It's only after dawn that Jin was already sitting in the living room, with a mug of hot coffee in his hand and a blanket covering his lap to keep him warm. He was staring far outside the glass wall where the view of the ocean was slowly getting visible as the sky was starting to brighten.

He really set his alarm at this hour so he'll be able to witness the sunrise from their living room. He then closed his eyes, remembering the night before and the things he and their friends have discussed. They gave him more courage to approach Taehyung - he knew very well that this is his last shot before his childhood love gets married to someone else. So he decided to put up his best fight.

As Jin pondered more on his thoughts while smelling the aroma of the coffee in his hands, he suddenly heard a door opening and shutting closed. When he turned to look, it was Taehyung who's stepping out of his room.

"Oh hey, Tae! Good morning." Jin said softly.

Taehyung was surprised to see Jin in the living room, but he was not complaining inside his head, "Good morning, Jin. You woke up early."

"Yeah. I want to watch the sunrise." Jin smiled slightly.

"I do too. Can I join you then?" Taehyung asked, walking near the sofa where Jin was seated.

"Of course. Come and sit here." Jin scooted to the far end of the sofa so Taehyung can sit comfortably. The latter sat on the other end, maintaining a gap between them.

Jin looked at his coffee then turned to Taehyung. He asked, "Don't you drink coffee still?! Shall I get you something else to drink? I can make a hot choco for you."

Taehyung smiled, but he shook his head, "Thanks, but I don't want you to miss the sunrise."

"It's still pretty early."

"Hmm, maybe later?"

"Okay."

An awkward silence filled the cold air as Jin just continued to sip on his coffee, while Taehyung stared far out. Then the latter cleared his throat softly, he said, "Do you remember the first time we saw a sunrise here in Jeju?"

Jin chuckled a bit, "Oh my, yes! We were with our parents but they were watching us very closely. They won't let us stay inside a room alone, nor even sit too close together."

Taehyung smiled, "Right. We were still very young that time so they were being careful. But we really wanted to watch the sunrise, so we sneaked out early at dawn."

Jin turned to stare at Taehyung, while the latter caught his eyes and kept his gaze at them. Then both of them looked like a great idea sparked inside their heads.

Taehyung smiled wide while Jin bit his lip, as if excited for something. Then Taehyung said, "Okay, let's go!"

Jin and Taehyung came out the front door running towards the seashore.

"C'mon, hurry up! We might miss the sunrise!" Taehyung said as he ran ahead of Jin. But he looked back and took Jin's hand when he saw that Jin was struggling on getting his slippers glide on the sand.

"Wait, wait-- I'll just take these off!" Jin said and hurriedly took his slippers into his left hand, while the other held tight on Taehyung's.

The two were giggling softly as they quickly dash to the seaside, close to the water but enough not for it to touch their feet.

Suddenly, the sun rays peeked thru the dark, orange sky - which caught their attention. Both of them silently stared at it - their hands are still locked together.
