bell witch.

"bell witch?" valerie repeated as kat nodded.

the girl had heard the stories of that forest, and the cabin, and the most from the cave. the whole property was haunted. haunted enough to kill a grown man.

val had sworn to herself that she wouldn't step foot near that place ever again. she'd heard too many stories at this point, even experiencing some herself. it wasn't all that surprising hearing that yet again another person had disappeared deep in the forest.

"um.. when did he disappear?" valerie said, shaking the thoughts out of her head. now wasn't the time.

"around ten-ish, we were in the cave and heard a noise outside, he never came back," she said, tears prickling her eyes. everything was starting to become real now. sam was missing.

valerie scribbled down what the girl had just said and signaled for them to follow her into her dad's office. they quietly followed behind her as she went over to the radio in her dad's office.

"dad, i need you to answer as soon as possible. i promise it's important this time." valerie spoke into the radio, and the two across the desk remained silent.

"you work with your dad?" colby said, his voice much lower than val had expected.

"oh. um, no. i don't work here," she said shaking her head as she sat down. it didn't make much sense to the others, why was she helping them? why would she help if she didn't even work here?

there was always a reason though. valerie could prevent it this time. she could stop whatever was going to happen before it happened. be five steps ahead.

"what is it valerie?" her dad's voice rang out, he was aggravated that the girl had paged him for the second time that night. this possibility couldn't have been more important than what he was doing.

"it's a code 1502. bell witch." the girl spoke into the radio as colby raised his eyebrows in confusion. if she didn't work here how did she know so much?

"ok, can one of you tell me, or show me, a picture of what samuel looks like?" val spoke calmly, almost as if she was a professional with this type of stuff. kat pulled out her phone before showing val a picture of a man with blonde hair, he had on a clouded grey hoodie with the letters "XPLR" across the front.

he looked so happy in the picture, posing as if it was going to be posted somewhere. did they have social media? it could possibly help benefit them in finding the girl's boyfriend.

"i'll be over soon." her dad sighed over the radio.

"was that what he was wearing earlier today?" kat nodded. valerie scribbled down the clothes he was last seen wearing and then waited for her father to get back to the station. she couldn't do too much since she didn't work here.

even if this guy was lost, they really only had seven days, seven days to find someone in a thick forest. it seemed impossible to the girl but she wanted to help. she had to help, save them from what happened to her. it was awful what had happened, she didn't mean for any of it. not one bit.

the three patiently waited for valerie's dad to come back to the station. it didn't take long at all considering that he had just left one of their runs.

a tall man that looked awfully like valerie walked into the office as val stood up, giving the man her seat. the girl sat in the back behind the two being interviewed.

"hello, i'm officer garcia. i heard what happened and i'm here to help you both." her dad said, choosing the words he spoke carefully. it was hard to lose someone you loved.

"i'm kat and this is colby." kat introduced herself to the officer, a quiet tear slipping down her cheek.

"i can see that my daughter has written down some things but can you two start your story from the beginning?" officer garcia said gently.

kat explained how the three had heard a noise echo throughout the cave, sam going to check it out. he never returned and the two started to look for him but to no avail, he was nowhere. they had looked for hours and found nothing. kat had even shown the officer the picture she had taken with sam earlier that day, crying softly as she explained it all.

officer garcia had written down everything the girl had said, to keep records of everything to help benefit the case.

"do you two have any sort of social media platforms? i noticed you said you were from california."

"um.. yeah? what does this have to do with sam though?" colby asked, his brows raised in confusion.

"i'm afraid there's nothing we can do until later, but, if you try posting about this, gain some attention so we can get a search party sooner," he said, looking up at the two. they had understood, mostly, they just wanted to find sam but they couldn't for now.

"i can help search," valerie said from the back of the room, "i can help search the forest if you want." kat nodded.

she couldn't just sit here and watch them, she couldn't that wasn't who she was. if she wanted to help them, she would.

"please."
