"really?"

he had taken her to his hotel room. calmer, valerie sat in the chair next to the bed as the two and kat talked. valerie wouldn't go into too much detail as to what had happened except that she had saw sam dead. this was it. this was the end.

"how do you know it was actually sam?" colby asked calmly, crouching down next to valerie on the floor.

"it was him, looked just like the same you two showed me," the girl stated looking up from her knees. she stared for a minute at the boy before looking back down.

"i don't truly know if it was sam or not though, all i'm saying is whoever it was looked just like sam." she took a deep breath, maybe she was going insane.

"you didn't take anything this morning right?" kat asked in disbelief. sam couldn't be dead, at least she hoped he wasn't.

"no, i barely had time to get ready," the girl said with a laugh. "i don't wanna believe that it was him."

"i don't either,"

"hey, there's something i don't think my dad mentioned yet. it's kinda important," she said slowly getting ready to tell the two that they only have less than a week to find sam, alive.

"what is it?" kat asked quickly.

"we only," the brunette started, taking a deep breath, "we only have five more days to find sam alive."

that was the moment the two's heart was fully shattered. all hope is gone. how were they supposed to find sam alive when they only had less than a week to find the boy? sure, they could find him but it would be way better if, for everyone, he were alive than dead.

"what do you mean?" colby was the first to speak, his voice small. she had already messed up. she should've waited to tell them.

"i'm so sorry, colby," she whispered looking at the boy. he looked hurt, was it hurt though? colby could have been mad at the girl for all she knew about him. they hadn't even known each other for more than a couple of days.

"he's my fucking best friend, we need more time," he whispered recoiling again the wall and sliding down.

"he's not just your best friend.." kat whispered setting the boy back. maybe he was overreacting. kat was being so brave and he was slouched against a wall feeling sorry for himself.

colby needed to do something. spend the night in the forest searching for his best friend. but sam was already dead, right? valerie had said so herself. as much as the boy didn't want to believe her, he had no hope left.

"i'm sorry," val whispered again. the girl apologized more than she needed to. but could you blame her? she had to tell almost strangers that they were most likely find their best friend dead. it wasn't easy.

"how are we going to find him?" kat was the next to speak, colby lost in thought. that was the part she was unprepared for. that was the part valerie didn't know how to answer because she didn't even know how to find her best friend when he went missing.

"i don't know," val claimed, her voice small now. if only she had tried harder she could have a solid plan on how to find sam.

"maybe we can just camp out in the forest, sam will show up eventually." colby suggested. it wouldn't work. it would only give them more of a chance of getting lost right along with sam. no one who camped in that forest made it out, never.

"we can't.." the brunette said, crushing the boy next to her's plan. crushing it down to a powder. no hope left.

"we have to have a plan," kat said, getting up to sort through her backpack, and grabbing a notebook, followed by a pen. she clicked it and wrote something down, making sure to circle it over and over.

"the plan," she read out loud. "valerie, how much do you know about finding missing people?" she asked with determination. at least someone still had hope.

"enough, i guess," she said slowly, making sure not to give too much just to ruin it all. she already had earlier.

"we can search, of course, but what else would we need to do," kat asked.

"um, you could try calling him but i doubt it will work," valerie said quietly, colby pulled out his phone. he dialed what valerie assumed was sam's number. straight to voicemail, as expected.

"nothing," colby added, his phone making a click as he turned it off. what would be the next step, what even was their plan going to be?

valerie garcia knew enough about these sorts of things since she had worked with her dad ever since asher was found dead. it didn't necessarily mean she knew everything, but enough to help find sam.

"okay," taking a deep breath, "valerie, what else could we try?" kat finished, looking over towards the girl.

"you could try posting on social media about it. y'all said something about filming," the brunette suggested, looking between the other two. kat nodded.

"colby?" she asked for confirmation. he shook his head.

"no, i don't want to bring our fans into this," he said with regret.

"it would help a lot," valerie added

"please, colby?"

"fine. but i don't want to put all of this onto them,"

"thank you, thank you, thank you," kat said, hugging colby which he accepted. maybe this could really help. maybe they could find sam after all.

"we could make a video and post it on instagram," kat suggested as colby nodded. kat pulled out her phone and slid over to the camera. colby made his way over to the girl.

"get ready," she said quickly setting up her phone, not fixing anything before pressing record.

"hey guys," kat welcomed her phone, sounding sadder than she intended to.

"how do we put this?" colby asked, looking over toward valerie for suggestions.

"however you want to, take your time,"

"sam's missing," colby said, blowing out a puff of air, this all felt real for the boy. really real. sam was missing, and they only had five more days.

"he's been missing for two days, we don't know where he went. he's out there somewhere in the bell witch forest," he glanced over toward valerie for reassurance, and she nodded with a smile.

"we need help," kat finished for him, her voice dulled with sadness. the hope from earlier almost vanished from her. maybe she was acting for the video?

kat finished the video by ending the video, the sadness still in her eyes. was it right to even post the video? what if people took it the wrong way? this was wrong.

"post it," colby said as kat blew out a mouthful of air. she listened. hopefully, they could find sam. they needed to find sam.
