GaoLi was just closing up shop when the door jingled. A dark figure stepped in and immediately he was on edge.
"I'm sorry sir, but we close in five minutes."
"I'll make it quick then," Fox replied and stepped closer, hands tucked into his trench coat pockets. "Fareeha. You sold her a painting recently. You wouldn't happen to have a copy of said painting?"
"Of course, I take pictures of all of my pieces. Would you like a copy of the picture? It'll be much cheaper than the painting but it'll still cost ya."
"That's fine with me. I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about it…"
GaoLi really wanted to go home on time, but if this guy wanted to know more about his art then he was more than happy to oblige.
"Certainly, what piece were you looking for?"
"It's a landscape painting of Treya Street at night, and there are two people in the background."
GaoLi paused, thinking. "Oh yes, I remember, that was about two weeks ago. The painting was based on a picture I took, would you prefer the picture instead? You seem like you've got something in mind other than art…"
Fox's eyes widened. "You've got a picture? Do you know anything else about the people in the background?"
GaoLi shook his head sadly, pulling the picture out of a folder. "I'm afraid not. Seemed to me their conversation was private, so I didn't want to intrude. I did see them go into a building, though, if that helps."
"It just might. Do you know the address?"
"No, but I know where it is in this picture. Find the place in the picture, find them. Well, hopefully."
He pointed out a building next to the figures. A dark red brick building, what looked like an apartment complex. It had a poster for a local jazz concert pasted to the wall. If that was two weeks ago, the poster might still be there. Fox handed GaoLi what he owed them, and tucked the photo away into his coat. The night gave way to early morning as he continued down the dark streets to find justice for Cinder.
