Poem: If Only

Upon every person's passing
I wish it were you
Smiling, laughing
As we sit next to each other
But it's not

Silently
Wishing I could
Accompany you to basketball
Or that you could see me trying
To make it work
I can't but neither can you

If only I could read your mind
And tell you I didn't mind
The things that you refuse to mention
Or to ask you to say
The things you didn't

If only I'd known the reason
For your departure
And had asked you to
Stay
