The sun shon through the trees as red and orange leaves fell from the branches. Shay quickly grabbed her new polaroid camera and took a few photos, excited to see the results. She had saved up enough money from her weekend job at Family Video to get one and she carried it with her wherever she went. As Shay shook the polaroids and waited for the pictures to show she turned around to see her best friends van coming down the road. She smiled to herself and made her way over to where he parked, getting into the passenger seat and buckling herself in.
"How you finding the new camera?" Eddie asked, reaching out to see what photos she had just taken. He grinned as he took in the beautiful autumn leaves. "Wow, these are great! Would you take some of the band at some point?"
"It's my new baby! As for taking photos of the band? You know I will. You don't need to ask." She replied, returning the smile and taking the photos out of his hand, trying to ignore the tingly feeling his cold rings gave her. She put them in her bags front pocket and then put her polaroid in the main compartment. "Now get driving. I don't want to be late for school!"
"God, you're so bossy! Tempted to kick you to the curb, Doherty!"
"Sadly for you I'm the one who is going to help you pass your classes and get you to graduate this year!" Shay winked at him before he pulled away and started driving towards Hawkins high. The pair happily chatted away about the next D&D campaign and what they were going to do for it. Eddie was the Dungeon Master but Shay helped him plan a lot of it.
Shay and Eddie had been friend since middle school after bonding over their shared taste in music. Shay has come across the long haired boy being picked on in an empty part of the soccer field and she hadn't hesitated to punch the bully when he tried to smash one of Eddies tapes. The bully had run away crying and she had helped the slightly older boy up and they had been best friends since. It was difficult to be friends with someone who was in the year above but they made it work and it got a lot easier when Eddie got held back a year.
As they pulled into the school car park Shay groaned as she spotted the "popular" crowd huddled by their usual parking spot. Eddie kept his face neutral as his pulled into the space and tried to ignore all the glares. They saw Eddie as the freak of Hawkins High and because Shay was friends with him they weren't fond of her either. They both got out of the van, Eddie with his usual lunchbox in hand and made their way inside. As they passed the jocks and cheerleaders Shay stuck her middle finger up and gave them all a cheeky wink, delighted by their unhappy responses.
"Fucking freaks!"
"What a bitch!"
"Skank!"
Eddie bumped your shoulder gently and laughed as you headed to your lockers. "You just love to wind them up, don't you?"
"Of course! It's my favourite past time!" Shay chuckled, grabbing her books before stuffing her bag in her locker. Eddie did the same and the pair strolled down the hall towards their classes. They only had a few classes together but sadly none of them were in the morning. "I'll see you at lunch, Munson!"
Instead of replying Eddie just gave her a smile and a nod before disappearing into his history class. Shay shook her head and went into her own class, immmediately making her way over to her usual desk where her friend and colleague was waiting for her.
"Shay! Steve tells me you've asked for more shifts?" Robin said, fiddling with a broken pencil.
"Yeah, I was thinking fridays since its only a half day here. I could do with some extra money too!"
"Yay! You'll be on shift with me then!" Robin clapped her hands together enthusiastically causing Shay to chuckle at her friend.
"I just want to be able to save more so I can get out of this shitty ass town. Unlike Steve, I'm not a mother of 6!" Shay replied just as their teacher strolled through the door. She gave her friend a small nudge before turning her attention to the front.
