Carolette

1st month January 30

Fire is interesting, it changes, shifts, grows, destroys, and feeds, fire is the strongest of the elements and is needed to survive. My faction was given our own sector of the city and at night we travel with candles to light campfires, lanterns, and cooking fires. We could just as easily burn the city, and no one would think to stop us. We have begun to create lanterns and hidden beams of wood in the city, the wood is a fail-safe, if the city is taken then we will destroy it all. The lanterns were to make the city look more advanced than it is, and they inspired the making of roads.

"When we set off to see the great cities around us, we saw great fields, towering walls, and vast forests, our land has much and much more to see but you know what I don't see?" Cordlen demanded, "Roads my people! Roads!" They stopped to draw breath then said, "I want the builders to make this a priority, make the roads in stone, seven paths from Avaleon, I do not care to where they lead. Starting at the city inlay the names of the dead in the ground so the people remember their own. Fire, place those lanterns you like so much on the sides of the paths so we can see."

Cordlen then dismissed us, and Ligh went off to conscript surveyors to help and I went to Minestone with my negotiators to plead for wood. When we recovered the wood, we went ahead and asked for stone as well. Once we had that we used the materials that we had to go ahead and make the lanterns. The lanterns are a stone pole with a central vein of wood that can be lit by moving aside what we call a safety if the core is burned then the fire goes until it reaches 'Plan B' as we call the system of wood hidden beneath and in the city.

So, Ligh and her little cult of China were mining the stone that they needed, they found a lot of other raw materials along the way as well, Akran's cult of stealth and murder was placing the stone on land cleared by Lenox's cult of hobbits. I cannot judge them for having cults though since I have my cult of doomsayers.

We are not well respected by the factions and are usually feared, I see it when I travel the city, people will stop to look at me and will whisper at each other, "Demon... Fire starter... They will kill us all..." they fear us for the power we wield and honestly? I do not blame them; they should be afraid.

Niki is watching me though I know it because she always seems to try to balance out my urge for arson during the meetings with quiet and calming words, hard to resist her when she tries to convince you of something, but it is frustrating not being able to light anything on fire. Call me insane, call me deranged, I do not care. Nikolas, a saint, blessed me with fire in my soul and for what reason other than to use it?

I have like fire and arson since I was young, I was always quiet and studious and some of the kids at school like to pick on me, one was called mark, I think, anyway he would always insult me, and he would lead the bullies to attack me. I could not get them to leave me alone so, in desperation I burned his house down.

That house burning was a beautiful sight. After that, though they could not prove it was me, the kids at school tried to be nice to me so that 'the demons' would not burn their houses down. Fire is my guide, my strength, my loyal friend.

The city lied in my hands; I could burn it all down if I needed to.

Why did they give me the pen? Oh right, on New Year's Eve we stayed up until midnight which Kara has told you, is perfectly normal, right when it was going to be midnight, we had tall piles of wood with scarecrows on them that were supposed to represent the old year and after the countdown to midnight I lit the bonfires.

They were a beautiful sight those fires as they slowly burned the old year to ash. My thirst for arson has been quenched for now...*
